If toilet not draining, pour one cup dishwashing liquid, wait two hours, use plunger with good seal several times. The soap makes the clog slippery.

Fantastic new product to unclog toilet - totally sanitary as nothing goes inside the toilet bowl. Easy to use, as well. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/3181083/how_to_unclog_toilet/

Wow, the dishwashing liquid & hot water worked like a miracle. I tried hanger to clean the toilet but it did not work. Then i tried plunger,no good result at all. Finally I searched on internet & i got really amazing stuff.I pored Palmolive Dishwashing Liquid & left it for five minutes & then I added hot water from tap.First time it did not work then i added sore more liquid & water and left it for an hour. After an hour I got amazing result. I really want to give my warmful thanks to everybody who unselfishly shared this money saving idea with me. You just saved me over $100.00!

I tried the soap and boiling water thing, thinking there was NO WAY it would work, but lo and behold...IT DID! May take one or two times, then let it sit for about 10-15 minutes and then try to flush, and it should go down! Major props to whoever invented this clever trick!!!!

I just want to testify that the 5 TBS of dish soap and boiling water DOES WORK!!! I would have never believed it if I hadn't had a horrible clogged toilet this morning. If you find youself in this problem, give it a chance. What do you have to lose?

Thanks for this video. It is one of the ones I consulted before going out to buy supplies. The plunger I had was an accordion style and wasn't cutting it. I went to a plumbing wholesaler store. They recommended the same type of plunger in the video. I have used a plumbers auger similar to the one in the video before, but it worked only some of the time. So, I bought a professional auger for $35. The end is several times bigger around and it looks a lot like the kind a plumber has used on my toilet before. It only took a few minutes to clear the clog. The plumber's supply place also recommended checking the toilet chain to make sure it is not too slack. He said it should almost be completely taut. This makes for a better flush.

My toilet was clogged with a major log to the point where the standing water would not drain a bit. I tried 3 different plungers, drained the toilet manualy, tried the dish soap and boiling water (I took the risk even though I live in an apartment building). All of the above several times all night long. Finally, when home depot opened up at 5am, I picked up a toilet auger for $8 and it worked like a miracle! To those of you with a serious clog: save yourself the dirty work and try the auger.

Thank you so much for posting this! My husband is deployed to Iraq and I usually depend on him to do such things around the house! I had no idea what to do, so I googled "how to unclog a toilet" and came across this!
