Return to article: How to Start a Rock 'n' Roll Band
on 6/8/2008 You can find your drummer at www.drummerhunter.com!
on 1/9/2008 I think step one should be make sure you have a band started first--like you have already gotten together members who play keyboards, guitars, lead singers, etc. Popularity may actually destroy the band--so make sure members are allowed to be themselves and have fun. Remeber all the band memebers that have been shamed for delves into alcohol drugs or have other destructive behavior because of stress and needing to be the best-- so keep it cool.
on 1/9/2008 I laughed at this tip "Find a drummer". Lol. It's like "find Superman and extort information from him". :)
on 1/8/2008 Sounds fun! And if you can't afford all that equiptment or find out your band has no talent...you could always just form a band on the video game "ROCK BAND" on XBOX for some fun times! That game will actually help you learn some rhythm!
on 1/8/2008 Great article. I like the idea that you can wear ear plugs to protect your ears but still not loose the feeling of your own music.
on 1/8/2008 The best advice I ever received "WHEN IN DOUBT LAY OUT" In other words,If you aren't a harmony singer, either learn intervals, or don't sing. You will stick out like a sore thumb! I have played in Bands my entire life, and the most annoying things when putting aband together are The "RATTLERS",(PEOPLE WHO WHAT TO JUST "SHAKE THAT TAMBOURINE OR THUMP ON A SET OF CONGAS" without the knowledge of time or beat. Plus the most important thing of all is to find People you have common interests with that are family oriented. No diva's or Jerks. they can ruin Everything. Music is supposed to soothe the soul and savage beast not create Monsters. remember a band is an ensemble for everyone.
on 4/7/2007 this is the best one i ever herd
on 8/31/2006 You want a name that's easy to find on the Internet, since so much music information is found online. If your band is named a one-word generic name it will be hard for people to find information on your group. Try doing a web search on the name you are thinking of using to see if anyone else has used the name, or if there's something else that comes up when you search for the name.
on 8/8/2006 If your band plays shows mainly at night, like 9 or 10 or even later, don't play slow songs. Nobody likes to be put to sleep when the last band in the show plays some slow lullaby or something. Most shows are almost over by 10 or 11, so if you play at that time understand that people have been standing around for a long time with nothing but candy to eat, so your band better play some crazy, fast stuff.
on 8/8/2006 If you are the drummer or bassist, you should bring extra picks every time you play or practice. You should do this because the guitarist will usually forget his picks, so then you can be the hero!
on 8/8/2006 Although some people say that is is best for all the band members to have similar musical tastes, sometimes bands come out with an original sound when they are blending various unusual influences. So don't just try and copy the sound of certain style. Sure, play your style but create something different. Bring in different ideas and make it like a soup.
on 8/8/2006 A band should have a unique sound, as long as the professionalism of the band is not compromised. Stretch your audiences imagination, but in a way that will make them say, "Wow, that was gutsy and well played!"
on 8/8/2006 I just have to say you need to find a bassist as soon as you can! I'm just starting a band and we haven't found a bassist yet, and it has been so hard! They are hard to find!
on 7/28/2006 This means not playing one long solo the entire way throughout the song. Hold back, and just play the melody, then pick out appropriate places to let it rip. This gives an even more profound effect on the audience, rather than just wailing the whole time. Playing your instrument should not be done simply to impress yourself with how well you can play. You should be able to know exactly when to let loose, and when to sit back and play the melody.
on 7/4/2006 If you're in a rock concert, don't show off and smash your guitar or kick your drums until they break. Your rockin' is your life, you'll turn out to be a disgrace to rock.
