on 8/28/2007 Is it considered appropriate to wear to an interview, a ladies jacket without a lapel?

on 8/21/2007 I have also learned that we full busted ladies may want to consider at least 3 buttons on our jacket to help tuck us in, especially in a formal setting, like the court room.

on 6/14/2007 You don't have to pay a fortune. Some stores such as Suzy Shier will offer the pants/skirt for free when you buy the jacket, and the quality is quite high. I never shop anywhere else.

on 5/30/2007 A good rule of thumb when purchasing a suit is that you get what you pay for!

on 2/6/2006 After having purchased (and worn) many suits over the years, I've finally figured what to look for in a suit. If you can only buy one suit, here's what I suggest:

1. Multi-seasonal wool in black, or grey, or rich tan (a tan that won't just look good in the spring or summer). Fabric should also have a slight sheen. You don't want a finish that's too flat. Especially if you only have one suit that needs to be able to go from day to evening.

2. Single breasted jacket (I prefer 1 or 2 buttons, but 3 buttons can also look sharp on the right person).
3. Make sure you can buy all three pieces -- jacket, skirt, and trousers. Don't buy two pieces and then hope the other item goes on sale. I've done that before and have been mad at myself later when my size isn't available at the sale price. Wait for sales on other clothing purchases, don't mess around when you've found the perfect fitting, multi-seasonal suit.

4. The skirt should be lined and approximately knee length.

5. Ideally, wool should be soft enough and of high enough quality for the trousers to not require a lining -- an unlined trouser is so much more comfortable than a line trouser. Sometimes this is difficult to find though.

6. Pants should have belt loops and it's best if the skirt does not.

7. Both the skirt and pants should look sharp with the type of shoes you plan to wear with them. It's best to avoid having to have one pair of shoes to go with the skirt and a separate one to go with the pants.

8. The most important thing is that you should feel great when you're wearing it, and I don't just mean when your looking at yourself in the mirror, but it should also be comfortable -- never sacrifice comfort for style when it comes to a suit, because it really is possible to find a suit that looks good and feels great.

With enough resolve and an "I'm not stopping until I find the right one shopping mentality," you can have everything you want in your suit - quality, style, and comfort - which will make this expensive purchase worthwhile!
