Yeah this is the best time of year for it. Mine that I grew from seeds is started to produce a healthy crop of leaves. Don't forget to pinch off the blooms so it doesn't lose flavor. My last basil plant lasted thru 2 winters before it died. The more you pinch it, the happier it will be! :). Try some rosemary too. It is great with potatoes.

My basil is growing like crazy. Love container gardening. Just run out on the porch and pince some basil for dinner cooking.

how long is germination? I have to pick a plant for my science project, so it can't be over 10 days...

fertilize the SOIL not the foilage....or use fish meal in the soil....it's not water soluble so it lasts for 3-4 years. Basil, as a green plant, will use alot of nitrogen, fish meal has an NPK of 9-3-0.

I'ld rather use tasteless fertilizer instead of fish emulsion, I don't want fishy pesto.
