Not every lawn is perfect. There are dips and bumps that will throw off your line of roll. Underhand lobs can work to get you where you want to go in bumpy situations, just make sure you throw short of your target (unless you're skilled enough to land a vertical drop), where the ball won't move much from landing.

on 6/27/2009 Try playing on the beach instead. Beach Bocce. No rolling bocce balls, just a toss and thud. You can play at Dogdaze LA.
You are all clearly ready for The Day of Games -Leisure Sports League....

on 6/11/2007 You can put backspin on the ball, which will keep it from moving forward once thrown, thereby effectively replicating a vertical drop.

on 6/30/2006 If you have a reasonably hard area of sand, beach bocce is a lot of fun. In fact, I like it better than bocce on grass.

on 6/7/2007 You can roll, lob or throw the ball. Experiment with different styles and determine which is most comfortable for you. I prefer the lob.
