Return to article: How to Treat Chapped Lips
on 5/16/2008 Warning: don't use any old lip balm. Some lip balms are designed to have to be used over and over again. My suggestion, works for me. Use Vaseline, or Aquaphor. Also one absolutely wonderful remedy is this. Slather on vaseline and massage it into your lips before you take a steamy shower. When you come out, your lips will be soft. But make sure you slather some more on after you come out. Always works!
on 11/11/2007 I have used Aquaphor and had excellent results with it!
on 11/8/2007 vitamin e seems to work the best....very good article.
on 11/7/2007 I always seem to lick my chapped lips even though It's bad, have to remember to have like 10 chapsticks all over the place. But don't forget to take them out of your pockets before washing/drying!
on 4/15/2007 i talked to my mom because she's a pharmacist about chapped lips and she said she went to a conference on Carmex and how it's initial use was to treat warts. if you look on the back, it's main ingredient is salicyllic(spelling) acid, which is also used to treat acne (you'll find it in any facial cleanser). the acid is caustic and will eventually corrode your lips down and make them peel off in layers. i didn't believe her because i had used carmex for months before she told me it was harmful, but one morning i woke up and sure enough my lips peeled off in layers. basically carmex sucks so don't use it!!
on 2/12/2007 I have had chapped lips for over 2 months now, have tried vaseline, chapp stick, tea tree oil and even my daughters eczema cortisone cream! my lips are ok, except for a few dry bits, nothing really major. Its the skin around my lips that are now sore, dry, flaky and they're white which is terrible when you have olive skin!I put on the chapp stick before I put on makeup, all around my mouth wherever its dry and it just will not go away..HELP!!!!!!! I work in a very public place at the airport and I dont want to look like a freak anymore..
on 11/8/2006 Just a minute ago i read all the articles on here, i had dead skin on my lips due to weather and after applying blistex incessantly my lips were soft and yet had dead skin on them... so I wet my toothbrush and then dried it a little bit and gently flicked up and down on my lips. it was AMAZING! afterwards i applied my saviour blistex! blistex or carmex are the best treatments you will ever find for your lips! no exceptions!
on 8/9/2006 Do this before going to bed: Dip an old toothbrush in Vaseline, and then run it under warm water for two seconds. Brush your lips gently with circular motions for 45 seconds, then pat dry. Apply a very thick layer of Chapstick, then dip your fingers in sugar and rub it all over your lips, using it like an exfoliant. Rinse lips carefully and pat dry. Do not lick your lips!Rub a tiny bit of baby oil over your lips, wait and let it dry and then put another coat, this one using more baby oil. Go to bed without licking your lips at all. It is a big no no. Wake up the next morning with a perfect pouty smile, soft and kissable.
on 8/8/2006 Cracked corners of the mouth are more likely to be caused by thrush than a B2 deficiency. You need to treat for oral thrush, improve your flora, and avoid any kinds of lip balms (no petroleum jelly) as they make great breeding grounds for bacteria. 99.9% aloe gel is very helpful in healing the cracks and it is very soothing. I've treated mine with thrush cream (type used for diaper rash, aloe gel, hydrogen peroxide mouth rinses, bio yogurt and probiotics). It took about 2 weeks. This also helped my dry lips.
on 8/8/2006 I had really bad chapped lips and my girlfriend told me to use peanut butter, so I did - and it worked! Just smear a thin layer on your lips and let it set for about 30 minutes and then your lips will feel smooth and pain-free.
on 8/8/2006 Use Vick's on your lips, apply in the morning, and they will be moist all day.
on 7/4/2006 Avon has this lip conditioner that works really well. It smooths your lips and you can choose many colors. I put it on when I go to bed and when I wake up my lips are smooth and plumped.
on 6/30/2006 Mix lip balm, sugar, and vitamin E into a paste in your hand and scrub onto your lips like you would a facial scrub. Rinse off with warm water and coat lips with the contents of a vitamin E capsule.
on 6/30/2006 Sometimes dry lips can be caused by a congested nose. If you have trouble breathing through your nose, you may sleep with your mouth open in order to breath. This can result in seriously chapped, or even cracked lips. If you suspect this problem, use a decongestant nasal spray before bed to clear your nose. A beeswax-based lip balm applied at night and vitamin E oil first thing in the morning will help soothe those dried lips.
on 6/30/2006 Go to your local drug store and get Palmer's Cocoa butter formula and slather it on your lips before bed. In the morning your lips will be really soft.
