Return to article: How to Treat a Mosquito Bite
on 7/16/2006 I just had the worst case of mosquito bites since I was a kid. I ran my legs under cold water for a few minutes and them saturated them with wintergreen rubbing alcohol. What a relief!! The itching is gone. Maybe it's the menthol in the wintergreen, I don't know, but it works.
on 7/16/2006 When you get a mosquito bite, wash the area, and then apply some butter. This will stop the itch very quickly!
on 6/11/2007 Sounds crazy, but I've been relying on this one for a while. If you get bitten, simply rub the inside of a banana peel on the bite for about thirty seconds. The fresher the banana the better, but I keep some peels frozen in the freezer just for this purpose. Who knew we'd been throwing away one of the best remedies for mosquito bites all these years? The inside of the peel has a numbing agent that is very strong, but it also has calming properties. So, itching and swelling are both taken care of simply by rubbing the inside of the peel onto the affected area. Good luck!
on 6/11/2007 I got a really nasty mosquito bite on the back of my leg. When I went running, it itched like crazy. I went home, and my mom told me to put ice on it for about a minute and some vinegar, then seal it with Scotch tape. It was amazing, it works, and it only takes 2 minutes to get instant relief!
on 7/13/2006 I took two Advil, spit on a bar of soap, rubbed it on the 20 or so bites, then rubbed in baking soda, then Calamine lotion. One mosquito bite usually tears me up. To my amazement, a half hour later, I'm barely aware of the bites.
on 7/12/2006 My bites get pretty bad. Mosquito bites on me are generally no smaller than 1 full inch in diameter. The only thing that really seems to work for me is Benedryl extra strength cream. In cases of other kinds of bites (like spider bites that have at times on me grown to nearly 4" in diameter) I use both the Benedryl cream and a dose of Benedryl anti-allergy pills.
on 7/11/2006 Just spread a bit of rubbing alcohol over the mosquito bite and the itching should subside shortly, and the bite itself will disappear within a few hours (max).
on 7/11/2006 We use a 5 to 1 water to bleach cocktail in a spray bottle for clean-ups in the kitchen. The bleach water also works to kill the sting in mosquito and fire ant bites.
on 7/11/2006 Rubbing Vick's VapoRub on the bites deadens the itching for at least a few hours.
on 7/9/2006 My niece came over for the summer and went outside for a few seconds and came back in with about 10 bites. I panicked because the bites swelled up a good size and she couldn't stop scratching. I immediately went looking for something to ease that sensation and I found my Gold Bond Medicated powder.I rubbed it on her and it immediately stopped the itching.
on 7/5/2006 I cover my bites with Band-Aids to keep myself from scratching and to keep my clothes from tickling/irritating the bites and making them itch. Try the little square or round Band-Aids.
on 7/1/2006 I've decided that the deodorant really works, the roll-on at least. Its base is watery and it dries out the bite and stops the itch. It leaves a nice smell, too. The toothpaste was just a mess and doesn't do much. So use roll-on deodorant, it works great.
on 7/1/2006 Rub a piece of sliced lime on the bite area. Something in the acid of the lime takes the itch away and sooths it.
on 8/14/2007 Rub some motor oil onto the mosquito bite. It works for me.
on 7/5/2007 Put toothpaste on the bite for a couple of minutes. It soothes the bite, reduces itching and helps heal the skin. It's also a good reminder not to scratch in case of involuntary scratching.
