Return to article: How to Treat a Mosquito Bite
on 6/24/2008 I was eaten up with mosquito bites on both thighs and upper arms. Had welts the size of half dollars. I used a stick antiperspirant and the welts and itching went away almost immediately. I could finally sleep last night. I had tried the alcohol and the Witch Hazel but they didn't last long at all. The deodorant did the trick. Thanks

on 6/25/2007 Ive tried lots of things including anti-itch cream for these little stinkers. I am currently living in the Philippines and i will tell you right this moment i have over 50 bites. A few years ago during an experiment I had a horrible rash, desperate I took a container of talc powder and a small container of water I shook up the powder and water until I got a paste. Apply, cools the itch instantly and keeps you from itching, however it leaves a giant white spot once it dries...and no one else has mentioned this remedy before so its all my discovery!! haha! ^_^

on 5/30/2007 I'm so lucky - the little buggers don't like the taste of me. My daughter, on the other hand, will end up with 50 bites to my one! It's so bizarre how they like some people more than others.
on 9/26/2006 I couldn't believe how well witch hazel worked on my 5 welt-sized mosquito bites! The night before I was up every 1 1/2-2 hours itching like crazy. The next day I decided to apply the witch hazel. It took about 3 applications and the itching stopped. I slept through the night with no problem. Just put it on, let it dry. The itching won't stop immediately, but it should stop by the 3rd or 4th application.
on 9/18/2006 Just rub a small amount of Lavender oil on the affected area and the swelling and itching will lessen. Every time you feel the urge to itch, just dab on some more Lavender oil.
on 9/17/2006 Use Vick's VapoRub. It immediately stops the itch.
on 9/12/2006 I have severe reactions to mosquito bites. I make a paste with table salt and just a little water and spread it over the bites. It's supposed to draw the poison out, but my experience has been that it only works for a few hours.
on 9/11/2006 On a recent holiday to Greece, and having suffered from extreme mosquito bites, one of the waiters there suggested I use vinegar on the bites. Not only did it stop the itching, but it also helps reduce the swelling too, thus getting rid of the bite sooner than it would naturally take. For best results, soak a few cotton balls (depending on how many bites you have) and leave it to rest on the bite, you will notice that the swelling will go down almost immediately and the itching will subside.
