on 11/22/2005 Use mineral oil for the eyes. Then mix 1 gallon of water with 1/4 c. baking soda, 1 pint of peroxide, and 3 drops of Dawn Clear. Scrub into fur, leave on 5 to 7 minutes, rinse and let air dry. Danada Veterinary Hospital, Wheaton, Il - it works!

on 11/22/2005 Put Vaseline on your dog's eyebrows before getting started. It will help keep water, soap and tomato juice out of his eyes.

on 11/22/2005 My dog got skunk sprayed twice in 3 weeks. Used the peroxide, baking soda fix & it works great. BUT I used baby shampoo instead of dish soap. Fortunately my dog loves baths & readily hops in the tub.

on 11/22/2005 I used peroxide and baking soda with a tablespoon of Dawn, and it worked great. Be careful - the peroxide lightened my dog's dark hair, to a light brownish red - oops.

on 11/22/2005 By the time you read this, it may be too late. However, after my first skunk experience, I now keep a can of tomato juice in my pantry just in case!

on 11/22/2005 Wash your pet at once - before the skunking dries. Do this even if you don't have peroxide and baking soda on hand. Hose the animal, dunk him in a lake or stream ... whatever. The smell will not last as long.

on 11/22/2005 My dog had a timely meeting with a skunk to discuss territorial matters. Nothing worked as well as a product called Skunk Odor Eliminator, and I bought it at Petsmart. I put it in a sprayer and used it on my carpet and couch where my dog rubbed.

on 11/22/2005 My German shepherd got sprayed and I found that perm neutralizer did a fabulous job. Of course she was bathed too.....

on 11/22/2005 We live out in the country, so this is from personal experience. Our chickens are real skunk magnets and we have a dog. We found that a laundry product called Febreze works best of all and you just spray. Protect the dog's eyes.

on 11/22/2005 My vet told me a sure way to get skunk spray out of my dog's fur. Dawn dish soap! It works like magic. Tomato juice didn't help so I called him, and wow, all smell was gone. Dawn is a degreaser and the skunk spray is oil. Try it - you'll love it!

on 11/22/2005 Vinegar and lemon juice work. After you clean your dog, give it a treat or a chew toy.

on 11/22/2005 When my dog was a puppy he was sprayed three times by skunks. I called everywhere to find out how to get rid of the smell. I ended up using tomato juice and it did work, but I left it on for two days, then rinsed him off.

on 11/22/2005 My dog tangled with a skunk last night. I bathed him with the peroxide formula twice, then shampooed him with his regular shampoo, and finally covered him in a mixture of vanilla extract and water. I let that air-dry and now the skunk smell is gone!

on 11/22/2005 Our dog rolled in a dead seal at the beach. This peroxide and baking soda formula worked to take the horrible stench out for that too!
