Really be careful about what you reveal about yourself because if you ever break up, your ex lover, even online, may use that against you.

Remember pics arent very reliable, webcams help. You should also talk to 1 another on the phone before meeting up so you can get to know 1 another more realistically. Make sure they are local or otherwise it could be too difficult if it all works out.

This is for if you're looking to eventually meet someone offline. If the photo exchange goes well (within a few days of the initial e-mail), go ahead and schedule a short coffee date. That way, if you two don't click offline, there won't be broken hearts, since you have not become too attached.

*always* remember that you have not met. keep in mind the chances of you ever meeting. or ever being together long term at all. relationships get deep and intense hyper quickly online. if it's been 6 months and you're saying i love you.. step back. it could be love, yes. but what are you -- and what are they -- willing / able to do about it?

Be realistic. You have become acquainted with a person online. The Internet is no substitute for real-life contact. As with any person you have never met before, keep your distance!
on 11/22/2005
When you first meet this online "friend," beware of the other person getting attached. In other words if that person starts getting obsessive, end the cyber romance, because that is where things can get dangerous.
on 11/22/2005
Make sure you know the person well. Call and get comfortable with each other before making the big step to meet. Also try not to fall head-over-heels for that person right from the start - the image they project online isn't necessarily the real one.

Take it slowly, as you would in real life. Most don't even think about saying the "L" word on a first date... Keep it like that online, and do yourself a favor.
