You can also try at Live Date Search. There are a lot of sites that lets you find new friends but sometimes you will just find scams. But here you can be sure you will meet real people. -

I can't believe you didn't mention social media. For example, by signing up for a Twitter account and following my office mate's Twitter page, I've been introduced to her entire circle of friends. As I continue to follow more people, I'm constantly being informed of exciting things that people are doing like coffee shop open mike nights, happy hour, etc. It's a great way to become hip on what's going on within a localized community and participate in that community.

Don't go into a chat room and get offended if you are not welcomed with open arms. There are a lot of people usually who have been there a long time. Do not demand attention, just naturally join into the conversations. You will be welcomed in time.
