Return to article: How to Stay in Shape While Traveling on Business
on 6/21/2008 Many hotels now offer in-room workout services...a sort of portable gym. I've used them and found them quite helpful. Also, since I travel with my laptop, I often take Billy Bank's DVD and get a great 8 minute workout in before my meetings.
on 7/26/2006 A great cardio workout that won't require any equipment is the one below. It's like using a jumping rope, but you are not. Anyway, it's quite hard to use it in an apartment! Just listen to a nice dance song, (using earphones if you might disturb somebody's peace) and jump, jump, jump. Do not jump more than 4 inches. Low and repeatedly, until the song ends.
on 3/23/2006 If you know where you can exercise before you leave home, your much more apt to follow through. Nothing is more motivating than a fabulous hotel gym, wonderful running route or nearby full-service health club.
on 11/22/2005 It's simple. Take the stairs in the hotel and office. Eat breakfast. Do not skip meals. Hell, for the most part, eating the beat healthy foods during travel is the easiest, since it's on company money!
on 11/22/2005 A jump rope is great for traveling. Doesn't need much space, packing or the actual act. Do it for 20-30 minutes, and there you have it - a complete cardio workout. The higher the intensity, the more calories you burn.
on 11/22/2005 Most hotels have pools, if you can fit a waterbelt in your suitcase, water running is the ideal replacement when you don't have the time or place to run or walk.
on 11/22/2005 Pack goggles and a suit for traveling light. After years of schlepping my running shoes, tights, and jog bra, I've decided to switch to swimming. When you book a hotel, ask if they have a pool--many more do than you'd think!
on 11/22/2005 While traveling, inflatable dumbbells are light and packable, perfect for strength exercises in hotel rooms where a gym isn't available. Dumbbell routines are found regularly in popular fitness magazines.
on 11/22/2005 While traveling for business, you can pack "power bands" (exercise-friendly rubber bands); multiple bands mimic higher weights. Bands can be used to facilitate full body stretches as well.
