Return to article: How to Grow Bells-of-Ireland
on 8/4/2006 I am a college student and have little room anywhere, so I tried a few different things with a few different conditions. I tried just planting the seeds in soil and giving enough water, placing them in floating water, and also placing the seeds between folded paper towel and over watering to the point of standing water around the paper towel. I found from my experiments that about one or two out of ten ended up germinating and growing in the soil. None germinated in the floating water (pretty expected). However in the paper towel I found almost all germinated. The key to the paper towel is to create a pseudo-winter by placing the plate with paper towel, seeds, and water into your fridge for about two days (I intended to only do it for a day, but forgot about them).
