You mentioned that the Hawaiian shirt should be worn out-what is the rule of thumb for how long should the shirt drop length be-I am 5'8 -

I notice that you mentioned to wear the Hawaiian shirt out. Is there a guideline for what length the shirt should be as far as the drop. I am 5'8

If you are a woman with one of those button-down shirts, you could always leave it unbuttoned and tie the two sides together. It's almost like a shrug and it looks pretty with a complementing camisole underneath.

Your aloha shirt should have a nice, easy fit. A size "L" shirt stretched tight across a size "XL" belly looks terrible!

Wear a Reyn Spooner brand shirt. These shirts are the formal wear of aloha shirts. These shirts are worn by business men downtown, and they are always acceptable attire at weddings. The shirts are an aloha print turned inside out, for a more muted effect. They are not quite so loud in color.

Hawaiian shirts go great with sandals, but just say no to socks! Nothing says "Hey, look at me, I'm a dork!" like wearing socks with sandals.

In Hawaii, buy a Hawaiian shirt that doesn't have a huge color contrast to it. Cool, light colors on a white or off-white background are easy on the eyes, and less like something a tourist would wear. If you want to look like a tourist, choose a shirt with a lot of color contrast and big bold designs.

A true Hawaiian native knows that on a good quality aloha shirt, the pattern or the design on the pocket is always continuous (or matching) with the shirt. If the pocket design doesn't match the body of the shirt, you have a cheap shirt.
