Return to article: How to Make a Great First Impression on a Date
on 11/22/2005 Guys, never be too hard or pushy all the time. Most girls hate it (unless they are dating a pro wrestler). Always be a gentleman.
on 11/22/2005 When you are on on a date, pay attention. Wear clean clothes that you feel comfortable in, be well-groomed, and feel good about yourself. You have unique traits and qualities, so share these by being yourself. Always treat your date and everyone you encounter (the waitress, etc) with respect.Don't use foul language, don't be suggestive, and don't pressure your date, ever! Don't check out other people or flirt with other people. Guys, be a gentleman! Ladies, dress and act like ladies. Don't demean yourselves by wearing overly sexy clothing. This sends the wrong message! Keep eye contact, relax, and try to get to know your date's special interests, skills, and characteristics. Avoid loud, smoky bars where you can't talk. Avoid really formal places that can add to the tension. Avoid drinking a lot, and avoid talking badly about other people. Don't be a victim or a blamer.
on 11/22/2005 Don't try to be very funny on the first date, or act very smart. Some people can't stand really smart people. In a one-on-one conversation, try to do and say the same things as the other individual. This will make the day go smoother.
on 11/22/2005 Feel comfortable and relaxed. Don't rush into it because he or she could feel pressured.Guys, don't look at your girlfriend's top while they are talking to you. Be polite and kind, not an arrogant girl getter.
on 11/22/2005 If your date does something embarrassing, tell them about a time when you did something similar. It will make them feel more comfortable and make you easier to relate to.
on 11/22/2005 Don't try to get too physical on a first date. Let the woman lead you in this area. If she touches you sometime during the date, then it's OK to touch her in a similar way. Trying to become sexual on a first date is a 'date killer' for a lot of women. Let her know you're interested but don't come on too strong.
on 11/22/2005 Men don't do this any more, and it's such a shame. When the lady you're with excuses herself to go "powder her nose" or other wise, stand up before she does. When she returns to the table, stand up again until she sits down. Not many women know that this is appropriate, and if they ask why you keep standing, respond that it is just good manners. Women appreciate good manners.
on 11/22/2005 Order an appetizer! They tend to be smaller in portions, and easier *note: neater* to eat. And pick-up lines arent always the devil, Sometime saying a few as a joke can spark up a conversation, and be very funny but they are never ever to be used seriously.
on 11/22/2005 dress in an outfit that makes you look ur best!!! dont tell jokes where/when they dont belong(in a conversation). Men, don't just throw pick up lines....believe me gurlz hate it!! Be fun, DONT talk about ex's!!! make nice eye contact, compiment ur date on stuff, gentle and light touches work like magic!! Reveal ur self but not too much save it 4 the second date!!!!;-)
on 11/22/2005 Guys: Smile, open your date's car door, and leave a decent tip for the waiter or waitress.
on 11/22/2005 Choose your meal with you clothes and table manners in mind. If you are wearing white, don't order spaghetti, your just asking for a mess. Select a non messy meal, that will not end up all over your face & your clothes.
on 11/22/2005 Being a girl who likes chivalry I love it when a guy does the little things like holding doors, offers things to you first etc. It's not old fashoned, it's just nice.
on 11/22/2005 Try to remember that a smile goes a long way. It never fails to give your date a long lasting smile once in a while! It makes the other person smile too. ^-^
on 11/22/2005 When someone gets a pimple, they can simply dab some toothpaste right on the pimple. Leave the toothpaste on the pimple overnight. This method Usually works.
on 11/22/2005 Keep in mind to be well groomed. It shows that you took the time and care. Go for the extra close shave, check to see if you have something b/w your teeth, etc. Make sure to be subtle with the cologne and aftershave.
