on 5/8/2008 As a woman, I like firm handshakes with other women and men. I dont like when I shake a woman's hand and it feels like a limp fish. I also dont like when a man puts his hand out to shake mine. I think it is proper and courteous for a man to wait for a woman and for a woman to shake hands with some firmness.

on 12/25/2007 My friends father only has his left arm. I am not sure if I should shake with the left or right. Typically when he extends his hand it is raised and his palm is facing down. I then extend my right hand with the palm facing up and he then will bring his hand down and gasp my hand. Your thoughts would be appreicated.

on 6/10/2007 can someone please tell me the meaning of a deliberate "left" handshake?

on 3/25/2007 Tip: If you're in the bathroom before you expect to meet someone, make sure your right hand is extra dry. Shaking hands with the left is pretty rare so it's less important to make that one bone dry.

Regarding shaking hands with women: It's true that in social situations, men should not initiate handshakes with women (although it's not a huge deal if you do, in my opinion). However, that is not the case in business. Businesswomen expect to be treated equally (as they should), and dainty customs about women are out of place in that circumstance. So go ahead and initiate a handshake there.

on 8/8/2006 Keep your hand straight and do not cup it. Make it a firm shake.

on 6/30/2006 A gentleman should alway stand when shaking hands. If you are seated and someone approaches you, stand up to shake hands with them.

On the other hand, a seated lady should not stand when approached by a gentleman. A young woman should stand when approached by an older woman or a woman in authority.

on 1/31/2006 Don't get too uptight about something so simple. Smile, and relax, practice if you want, but when the time comes don't concentrate so hard that you look stiff and unnatural.

on 1/2/2006 If you have sweaty palms, condition you hand with antiperspirant. Rub it on at night and then wash it off in the morning, you will eventually create a build up and won't have a squishy hand.

on 11/22/2005 Here?s a foolproof trick I picked up from karate class. When you shake someone?s hand, extend your index finger over there wrist. This will greatly reduce the amount of pane inflicted on your hand; it will also make your handshake standout from other handshakes. But beware, this can result in less pressure, so only extend your finger if you have very strong hands.

on 11/22/2005 If you come into a situation where you need to shake hands, but your hand is currently holding something that would be difficult to trade, you can shake with the wrong hand. The trick is to rotate your arm so that your hand is upside down. It feels a little different, but it's still pretty comfortable. For example, if shaking with your left hand to another person's right hand, barrel-roll your arm and hand 180 degrees clockwise and shake their hand.

on 11/22/2005 Male/Female = Male should never offer(or initiate) a handshake to a female. Female always does.
Female/Female = Older female offers the handshake or one socially higher(boss offers the handshake to her employee)
The same applies for Male/Male.
