Return to article: How to Keep a Journal
on 11/22/2005 Write to someone you admire. My journal takes the form of letters to an actor that I really like. He's someone I've never met and doubt I will ever meet, but writing to him makes it easier to keep the habit up.
on 11/22/2005 Choose colored ink to indicate your mood Example: Green can be for growth or eagerness. Yellow can be for caution. Red can be for anger. Blue can be for melancholy or relaxation. Black can be for power or strength.
on 11/22/2005 If you don't know what to write, or just forgot what you were gonna write, doddle, draw something, and make images.
on 11/22/2005 Your journal doesn't have to be limited to daily accounts. You can always include poetry, stories, photographs, receipts, ticket stubs, pressed flowers, newspaper clippings - it's amazing what can become a treasured memento in years to come!
on 11/22/2005 You don't need an expensive designer blank book. Some of the best journals are $2 composition books with the covers collaged and "laminated" with clear contact paper. Make the whole journal a real expression of yourself!
on 11/22/2005 Each entry is like a letter to a friend, telling your feelings. Start it out by saying Dear (name) or Hi (name). Think of each entry being told to someone who doesn't know you, so you make sure to explain it in complete detail.
