Well My daughter woke up this morning with a glob of Stride gum in her hair and my immediate thought was "we have to cut it." I logged on here and saw some ideas that didn't include cutting hair. I tried the olive oil method and it worked within minutes!!! Thank you for all your help...now my daughter doesn't have to have 6 inches cut off of her long, beautiful hair!!!

Olive oil- ice sucks, made it worse. and please don't use chemicals on your childs head. thats NOT safe! but anyways... olive oil works great. just put some in the spot where the gum is and it will eventually slide out. then take a shower and SHABAM! its gone.

My son also fell asleep with a huge piece of Hubba Bubba chewing gum in his mouth that fell out during the night and got SMASHED FLAT AND FULL OF HAIR in the back of his head. I thought we'd have to cut it out for sure, but after reading the comments on this site, I got some olive oil and massaged around it real good with a good bit of oil and EVERY BIT came out....NO CUTTING! I then washed it with Dawn Dish Liquid and it got all the oil out completely.

we connected two of our friends hair with 16 pieces of "bubble yum," then successfully used peanut butter to get it out. strange thing, they acted still connected and told people that for weeks later.

I used the peanut butter trick yesterday on my child's hair. It took some time but worked well. When I was done, I had to shampoo her hair twice to get all the peanut butter out.

Being a hairstylish, I have had to remove my share of gum from hair. In the past i have used peanut butter, and i have tried the oil. But what i have found it the best is; heat vinager in the microwave, and then all you do is either soak the gum in hte vinager, or dip a towel in the vinager and saturate the gum. the gum just desolves. Hope this helps

I started with WD-40, but the smell got to my kid. I then used peanut butter, my kid at leased liked the smell. The only problem was that all I had was chunky peanut butter! It worked, just do it outside so the peanut chunks will fall out onto the ground. It took a few attempts to massage it in. Shampoo and conditioner gets the smell out.

I just read through everyones comments, as I managed to get gum in my hair in a club tonight and wanted to get it out before I went to sleep. I used 5% tea tree oil in almond oil (used for cleaning piercings) rubbed that in for a minute and shampooed it out, quick fix and I smell lovely. Now to get some sleep.

My cat rolled in some gum and we used the peanut butter tip to remove the gum from her fur. It worked like a charm! Thanks so much for the tip!

I'm actually quite frightened by the number of people that are willing to put gasoline, WD-40 or other chemical solvents on their child's head. Stick to the peanut butter!

Smooth liberal amounts of peanut butter through all the hair that has gum in it. Rub it in gently. Then pull it out of the hair -- it will come out along with the gum. The gum will be long and stringy so stick it on to the bathroom counter top. When done, plug sink drain and rinse hair with warm-hot water until gum and peanut butter are out. May take a few times draining the sink. Wipe the gum off the counter and/or comb and sink with a tissue. It shouldn't stick, because of the peanut butter. I have very long thick straight hair and woke up with a big glob of gum stuck in my hair. This worked. Thanks. eHow!

Use peanut butter. My dog stepped in some gum. The goo was between his pads, under the toenails and of course picked up all the dirt he walked on. I followed the suggestion for peanut butter, let it sit for 20 minutes and the gum pulled away easily. I then washed his foot. A great non-toxic way to rid a pet from gum.

My four year old came to me with gum in her hair. I heard that peanut butter works, so I tried it. I didn't even have to leave it in her hair, the gum just slid out, and then I washed her hair. The gum was totally gone Peanut butter is one thing I will always have on hand!

Just spray the gum, wait about two minutes and comb the gum out, then shampoo as usual! No peanut butter or mayonnaise needed! And the spray is so easy to get right where you need it!

My five year old had quite a wad of gum in her hair from the tips to about 4" up. We coated the area with some creamy peanut butter, wrapped it in a napkin, and rolled it up to keep it away from the furniture and the rest of her hair. After about fifteen minutes, we put her in the shower, unwrapped the hair, and put about two tablespoons of shampoo right into the peanut butter-hair-gum mess (no water). Worked it in for a minute or so and then rinsed with lukewarm water. Worked like a charm!

Just use plain old cold cream. The gum will just disappear. I tried it. It really works. It's also easier on the hair.

I just used WD40 on the gum in my daughter's hair. The gum just dissolved away. Of course wash the hair after removing the gum. :)

Vaseline and warm water. Rub Vaseline on your lips or wherever the gum problems occurs. Use a towel or tissue and put it under warm water. Wipe your face. Do this 2 or 3 times. Works well.

I totally flipped out when I realized I had gum in my hair. At first I tried to brush it out, and that made it worse! It tangled my hair up and made my hair even more pressed into the gum. I heard that peanut butter was great, but I thought "ewwwww!!!" Although it sounded gross, I tried it because I was afraid the oil would dry out my thin hair, and the ice method wasn't too convincing. I put about a teaspoon of JIF creamy peanut butter in my hair and let the peanut butter do it's magic for about 15 minutes; every other minute rubbing in the peanut butter to my gum and hair in the gum. Every minute, the gum kept on getting less sticky and becoming hard. After 15 minutes, I went up to my sink and using hot water, I put the chunk of my hair with gum in it in the water. I continually would brush my hair for 10 seconds and then let it soak for 10 seconds in the water. I did this for 2 minutes, and then washed my hair with shampoo and conditioner. The gum and the peanut butter were gone! I don't have to chop 6 inches off my beautiful, long hair! Peanut butter is the answer! It wasn't even that gross! Thank you eHow!

My fiancé was playing around with some putty and got it in his hair. I was clueless how to get it out. I am in cosmetology school, and was starting to think I was going to have to start cutting his hair. But before I did, I got on the web and read about putting the peanut butter in the hair to remove gum. After using the peanut butter for 15 minutes, the putty came out using a fine tooth comb. It will however, take a couple of washings for all of the peanut butter to come out.
