on 4/13/2008 Please do not wash your dog every week or you will dry out the fur. Get Advantage or Frontline for the fleas.

on 4/13/2008 Please do not use Hartz products on your animal. They are ineffective and deadly for cats. Go to the vet or get on-line and get either Advantage or Frontline. They are safe and proven effective. You don't need a prescription to get them.

on 4/13/2008 That article came at the right time. I adopted a stray cat, who just had 5 kittens, and I want to make sure, I know how to get rid of any possible fleas, should the problem come up. Thanks for posting, very informative.

on 1/23/2008 SORRY, THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DE POWDER, DIATOMACEOUS EARTH. THIS IS WHAT I FOUND.
"FYI": Diatomaceous Earth sold for swimming pool filters is dangerous to human health, your pets and Livestock. It has been chemically treated and heated to change it's composition. It will kill fleas but it might kill you too!

on 11/30/2007 I have tried Dawn on my 9 week old long hair dachsund, to no avail. The little buggers wouldn't die. It was suggested that I use apple cider vinegar..... 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water. Tried that. Killed most of them, but there were still stragglers and the poor pup lost all her fur :( Reading thru these tips, and will try a few more before I race off to the vet, begging him to help her. Glad to hear so many are having good luck. I hope to be able to join those ranks soon.

on 11/5/2007 eeeeeeeeeeeeks, I cannot take it. I noticed a flea Oct 23, and the process has been a nightmare. I have 3 indoor cats upstairs, an dog, and a cat that lives downstairs. All cats are indoor cats. I also HAD a bird that lived downstairs, and in 4 years got along nicely with the cat. Well had to take all pets out of the house, exterminator came in. Got all the pets flea dipped and on treatment. Well have been mopping, vacuming, doing laundry nonstop and trying to still work fulltime! With all the upheaval, the cats have become a bit traumitized. I no longer have a bird, cannot even go into it, the cat somehow got to him with all the unheaval. And almost 2 weeks later, we got bit by one. I have been boraxing the carpets, floors, closing them off to my cats. It is not easy!

on 10/26/2007 Hello There

We had been infested with flees. For three weeks we tried everything. Hartz sprays, oil, and we also fogged three times. Once a week for three weeks. We left for three hours and came back and the dang flees were still jumping around. My wife was biten to extreme. New bites everyday. Nothing worked. Very frustrating. We finally tried 20 mule team borax. It was supposed to illd the larve and hatching eggs by dehydrating them. I sprinkled it over the carpet and sofa and inbetween the mattress and box spring. We let it sit for a day.....and then vacuumed it up. tons of DEAD fleas were all in the vacuum container. I sprinkled again, waited a day or so,then more dead fleas. and the bite frequency went down and then stopped. It was a great reamdy and CHEAP and not toxic to us or pets. I plan to do this in the spring...and evey now and then....the dust will stay in.

on 10/26/2007 A great trick that I learned this year for getting rid of fleas around the house:
Get a large baking pan and fill it with about an inch of water and a squirt of Dawn soap. Then place a gooseneck lamp over it, shining directly into the dish. The fleas will jump towards the light and plummet to their deaths in the soapy water! Very satisfying to watch!

on 10/8/2007 Hello: the front line and hartz brand does not get rid of the fleas. i have tried it.

on 9/22/2007 FLEAS-B-GONE: While waiting for my new house to be ready, I had to move myself and dogs into a local apt. complex. Needless to say it was over run with fleas inside and on the grounds. I use regular TABLE SALT, spreading it thru-out the entire apt.and on my furniture. Next step I washed both dogs in DAWN dishwashing liquid. I haven't seen one flea on either dogs nor in the apt.

on 9/8/2007 I was surprised by how well normal dish soap (Palmolive Oxy Plus) worked. It's been over 12 hours since I gave my kitten a bath with it and he's still shedding dead fleas!

Also effective was mixing together a half gallon of water, 1/3 tablespoon of dish soap, and one capsule (1.8ml) of Hartz UltraGuard plus into a pressurized sprayer and spraying it on flea infested surfaces. This killed all of the adults in a matter of minutes, and I bet if you mixed in an Insect Growth Regulator such as Nylar you could take out everything in one shot!
