I live in a city. I don't have any pets, but I got bunch of fleas in my house. The house has a garden and bunch of cats, squirrels, and raccoons around. I had a flea infestation, especially around the bathroom. Most probably some of those animals built a nest under my house and its fleas found their way in. I basically followed the basic steps: (1) Vacuum twice a day - I sucked in boric acid powder into my vacuum to make sure that the fleas that got sucked in were killed. This ensured that those hopping around were gotten rid of. Vacuuming the house took about 45 minutes to an hour every day, but either that or suffering. (2) Flea killer spray: I used Enforcer, but any good brand will do. Just spray. May be every other day. Make sure that everyplace is covered. (3) This is the most important step. Caulk (or fill in with whatever) every crack that you think fleas could have gotten...

the vinegar tip sounds perfect, but we all need to understand that vinegar can be harmful to blood too. It can attach itself to the oxygen in the blood so be carefull not to use too much I was wondering whether anyone knows how often you can apply a flea bath to the dogs. They seem to be in pain right now with the summer approaching.

Get a type of worm called nematodes, which feeds on fleas and can help you to get rid of fleas. You can sprinkle them around the garden and let them do the work!

We live out in the country and have tried some flea control methods... I have fogged my house, sprayed the yard and as soon as we did all this, we bathed all 3 dogs with flea and tick shampoo. It seems like a never ending story because there's so much open land it is impossible to treat it all for fleas. Does anyone know of another remedy to take care of that problem, or do we all just have to suffer with the infestation.

You want to get rid of fleas from you dogs or cats forever? Here's a remedy that works 100% of the time, and is very cheap. Get a gallon of fresh water and mix in 5 tablespoons of white organic vinager. Mix it well and from now on, make sure that your pets only drink that instead of regular water from now on (especially if they go outdoors). Within a few days the fleas will leave and never return.

I have hard wood floors and a sun room that is carpeted. The dog has been gone for about 2 weeks now.I've bought over $100 bucks on products..I've bombed my house twice..sprayed upholstery..vacuumed rigorously rugs and couches..these things are still here. What am I doing wrong and can someone please help a desperate man. I have a 3 year old boy and I can't stand to see him scratch anymore.

My vet soold me a $20 can of stuff to spray everywhere called Knockout ES. I hate to use it, but we treat the pet with the expensive frontline and have tried everything else and still have a flea infestation from the last tenant that was here.

Frontline PLUS is the only thing that has worked for me, its just expensive when you have multiple pets. I'll try some of your tips and see if I can save some money.

A good way to get rid of fleas (and eggs) is to use a good flea shampoo on your carpets. It's a lot less money and will continue to work for weeks.

I bought Plug In Insect and Rodent Repellents 3 years ago to stop ants, flies and wasps entering my house. Not only has it stopped these insects, my cat Tina has not had any fleas since, nor have I been bitten. The repellents also keep the fleas at bay. I've saved money by never having to buy any flea sprays or any Spot-On flea insecticides since!

As a veterinarian, I appreciate this article! We've spend a lot of time treating problems caused by fleas which could have been prevented if owners protected their pets better at home.
