Return to article: How to Recognize Behaviors That May Indicate Suicidal Thoughts
on 8/30/2008 This is a great article and so well written. I had a friend in high school that committed suicide and over ten years later, my friends and I still wonder if there's anything we could have done. Good advice!
on 8/12/2008 This information is so detailed and helpful. It's often easy to overlook depression in our friends and loved ones.
on 8/6/2008 This article should be posted in community centers and on hospital bulletin boards for workers, patients and I'm apt to think Nurses and Doctors to see... Daily!
on 6/21/2008 kebon77: Thanks for commenting! This is very sad! I am so sorry that you had to witness this. I hope you are well. Please feel free to email anytime you need to talk.
on 6/21/2008 luv2blog: That is awful! In the 5th grade? If only these children, and people in general knew and understood how harmful that their words can be...I feel for everyone who experienced this!
on 6/21/2008 Tippy, I am extremely sorry that you are the mother of a person that attempted suicide. I sure hope that your child is doing much better. You can really reach out to others based on your experience. God bless you and yours!
on 6/21/2008 Susan, thank you so much for responding. I appreciate your feedback!
on 6/21/2008 Answers4u: You are right about the nature of this emergency. Unfortunately, I do not believe that you are correct in saying that this is an "extremely bad article" simply because of the fact that I DID put a lot of effort into this in order to reach those that may come in contact with someone that is suicidal. There is some valuable information in the article that can prove to be quite beneficial to someone who needs help, or someone who can provide help.
on 6/21/2008 Extremely bad article. If someone admits to having suicial thoughts, the one and only important thing to do is to take them to the emergency ward of a hospital that has a mental health ward. Stay with them until they are admitted. A psychiatrist can force the person to stay for 23 hours and if he feels that the person needs extended care he will get 2 relatives to sign the commitment papers. Then it will take the psychiatrist and the judge to release them. Don't guess if the person's really suicidal, you must assume that they are and need emergency intervention. People at work found out a co-worker was talking about suicide, but it was a secret I never found out about, until a week later he shot himself in the head. If they had told me their "secret" I would have advised immediate hospitalization. Men who talk about suicide are more likely than women to perform it
on 6/21/2008 Suicide is so sad. I had a guy commit suicide in fron of me in the military and I never even knew he was depressed. I think that it was a spur of the moment impulse decision because he had just failed boot camp and was going to have to do it all over again.
on 6/21/2008 A great article. I know of a child that committed suicide because his classmates were constantly teasing him about his looks.Constantly calling himugly. He was in the 5th grade and it was just more than he could take. Those children were cruel and probably too young to understand the consequences of their actions.
on 6/17/2008 This is a fantastic article. I read every word. As the mother of someone who attempted this a few months ago, I can tell you that it is traumatic and heartbreaking. Life isn't always fair and some people are just too sensitive to withstand the constant barrage from others who are cruel and demeaning. Thanks.
on 6/13/2008 I am so sorry, my computer had a glitch and posted this twice. Please forgive me.
