Thank you Tammym. I wanted a simple fish to take care of and for my 3 year old to have. I went to Pet Smart and purchased the fish and the bowl. The salesclerk said that she has one and feeds him once a week. She changes his bowl about every 2 weeks. Ok, this will be easy. NOT. The beta food directions said to feed him twice a day with 2-3 pellets. That's better than 1/week. As for the bowl being clean, 3 times a week seems more like it as my water keeps getting a little cloudy by day 3 of the week. Thank you for your suggestions. They make more sense.

Please!!! There is more to taking care of Betas. First of all, you must wash the gravel, tank etc. before you begin to set up the tank. The water should be treated with conditioner (aval. at the pet store) to balance the PH and counter the chemicals that are in the water. This water should be at least 24 hours old...meaning put the water in a covered bowl for 24 hours before using it. Place the fish, still in the bag that it came in, into the prepared tank for an hour or so before putting it directly into the tank. The tank should be cleaned 3X a week.

on 11/17/2009 how do you clean a beta fish tank? does this mean just replacing the water and cleaning the rocks, or do i need to get a filter?
