Return to article: How to Stop Your Cat From Urinating and Defecating Inappropriately
on 4/26/2009 I have one cat who will use the litter box very consistantly, he's neutered and nine years old. I've never once had a problem with him, so imagine my shock when I tried to get other cats and NONE of them would use the litter box! I wish I had run across this article before - I finally had to give up on three different cats...
on 3/28/2009 i have 2 male cats, neutered, they are in and out cats. one will not use my litter box to urinate in. i realize there are neighborhood cats, but that is something i cannot do anything about. i keep a clean litter box, just had him to vet who says he is healthy. i only have a few choices left. it is not my house :( if i leave him out, there are also neighborhood dogs, and am running out of options. i clean the messes (only urine, he will defecate in box). he always used the box until last fall. any ideas will help. i was thinking of getting a large pet cage for nighttime use. otherwise he is a good pet.
on 3/1/2009 We are having the same problem with our male cat. We already had a female cat and we got the male last fall. He urinated on my daughters two baby quilts that she left on the floor in the first month or two but, we didn't have any other problems until after we got them declawed. We used yesterday's news when they got home but, I only put it in one litterbox and removed the other temporarily. After two weeks we switched back to two litterboxes and regular litter. However, he is still urinating and sometimes pooping on our beds and clothing that is left on the floor. We don't know what else to do, we have cleaned up the messes as well as we can. We are to the same point as threenewkittens. We have also started remodeling the house recently so, according to some articles that may be a factor. He has always been a little skittish so maybe it's nerves? Any advice other than cleaning
on 2/11/2009 My cat started peeing in my room and by his litter box and i switched his litter to yesterdays news and used a product called stink free which comes with a black light that can help find where the urine is, and it takes the odor away and no more pee!
on 2/10/2009 I have 2 cats a mom and dad now but the dad has started to not just spray, but urinate all over the house. He normally does it in clothes hampers, beds, or in corners of back rooms in the house. I keep all of the doors shut to back rooms but he still does it in all kinds of spots on the floor. I dont trust him with the new kittens in the house so I keep that door shut too. he always meows every hour on the hour to get in the room. I let him in when im in there but no matter what he always wants to be in there. I would love to know what I have too do to get him to stop or I would have to give him away to a loving family that knows how to fix the problem.
on 1/20/2009 Mix up warm water & candle oil in a bottle & spray it where the cat keeps urinating & this should stop them going back. Never use vinegar or ammonia based cleaning products as this attracts the cat. Hope this helps :)

on 1/19/2009 I have 4 cats and one of them started peeing on the area rugs and beds some years ago. I have removed most rugs and installed french doors for the living/dining and we keep all the other doors closed. However, sometimes she gets in without us seeing her and she will pee on the bed or the rug in there and I can't keep a rug by the front door because she will pee and defecate on it as soon as I walk away. She knows she is doing something bad because when she sees me coming, she runs somewhere in the house to hide. How can I stop this, the litter box is clean and I have also tried to keep an extra litter box but the other cats don't undertand that it is for her. It has become such a problem that after 12 years I'm thinking of putting her down. She is a very shy cat but vary loving and I would rather solve the problem. They all get along fine together.
on 12/30/2008 I have 4 kittens, they were for about a week or so using their litter box but now they have stopped. How can i stop the bathroom being all over my house instead of the litter box.

on 12/15/2008 My 2 year old female cat has begun a rather foul habit of urinating on my kids hockey bags....lately this has included my futon... and I have washed/sprayed areas but she did it again afterwards...now I have to throw out the futon mattress! I am thinking of throwing her out....but my kids will be devastated...someone at the arena suggested orange peels in the hockey bags..which we did...but I am still concerned she will keep this rotten habit up...as she has connected the smell of sweat is similar to the smell of urine.....any thoughts?
on 11/19/2008 I have a 7 month old male cat that not too long ago began to urinate on my roommate's futon and on the clothes in my closet when I left them on the floor. After catching him more than once I solved the latter by keeping my clothes in the hamper and always keeping the door shut. When he does sneak in there I scold him and he knows he isn't supposed to be in there. As far as the futon goes, I have cleaned it many times but he always goes back to it. And Febreze does not take the smell away. I just tried Out! Stain & Odor Remover on it today so hopefully that will help. When my aunt gave me her bed I didn't know it had cat smell on it until I brought it home. I sprayed Out! all over it and ta-da, good as new.
on 11/18/2008 Is there a spray that I can buy to stop my moggy peeing on fake leather settee in girls playroom. This has happened quite a few times now and always on the settee never anywhere else. We moved into a new house and the furniture is all new however this behaviour is happening when we are in the house and also when we are out. I have been shutting the door but tonight we were having tea and door was left open and she went in and did it!!!! Doesn't seem to matter how clean the litter is. I am blaming neighbours cat for walking through and stressing her but at night time when on my window sill she doesn't bother with him that much. She does run the length of the house to every window she can to see him off. Getting very peed off with behaviour
on 10/27/2008 I have a 9 yr. old Maine Coon that I just adopted last May from the humaine society. I have 2 other cats, one male and one female. They all adapted well, but the Maine Coon urinates right outside of the litter pan. He walks up to it and then scratches the carpet outside of the pan then urinates on the carpet.
