Return to article: How to work around your memory issues.
on 6/17/2008 After forgetting to take my lunch to work too many times, I decided to pack something that didn’t require refrigeration and place right in front of the door to go out. Sounds like a great idea, huh? Guess what; I’m on a hurry to get out of the house on my way to work, see the bag on the floor in front of the door, and kick it out of the way as I’m trying to remember why a bag was in front of the door. On the drive to work, I started laughing when I recalled the bag that I so judiciously kicked out of my way was my lunch. Yeah, I have memory problems. I like Step 4 the best. Let’s hope I don’t forget the alphabet.
on 6/3/2008 Sometimes forcing it does make the memory problems worse, so you are correct in saying "focus on something else." Very encouraging!
on 4/13/2008 Good ideas! I forget where I park my car at Wal-Mart alot - uggh! You think I would learn.
on 3/21/2008 Great ideas.
on 3/20/2008 Step five: When all else fails, try a brain transplant. Haha!
on 3/19/2008 Great topic! I have a 90-year old brain in a 30 year-old body. I can't remember directions, names, nada. I do remember word associations though, so I try to use them for everything. If I go to the mall to get glasses, and park in section G, I tell myself "G for glasses", etc. If I meet someone new, I try to associate their name with something about how they look, or make up a rhyme about it like "Cher has big hair" For some reason that seems to stick!
