Ah lot of people mistake Goth Fashion with Heavy Metal Fashion. "Truetruetrue Goths" wear Victorian like outfits. Like Gothic Lolita stuff. They are very elegant and do smile. Music really doesn't have much to do with it. But some Goths have a fondness for the Classical music. Most people today think Heavy Metal Fashion is Goth. Though it does share some styles and ideas, they are still different styles. Heavy Metal Fashion is like chained pants and spiked belts and chokers, etc. Both styles use black, but Goth is more on the Elegant side. And They do not always have to wear black. That's not like a rule or anything. And They do not always dress outrageous! They are regular people too.
And Goths do smile and laugh. They are not all sad and depressed. It's true some do fake the whole gloomy thing, but not all. I know a lot about fashion and the different types of fashion, and Goth Gl...

Wow. This just sounds like some poseur who tries too hard to impress the real goths and forgets to have fun. TRUE goths do whatever the heck they want! They have fun, they have their own gothic fashion taste! They all have different taste in music! And they CERTAINLY wear whatever they want to wear! (i like goths! :D)

The whole article is ludicrous! I consider myself an elder-goth. To you that is before you were probably born ore even thought off to be created, around the 70's in Europe at a time when punk was goth and goth was in because one believed in non-conformity! get a life and learn your history of goth culture first before you spread your evil narrow-minded self to thin in public!

Wow, I'm not a true Goth afterall. Spmeone please strip me of all my Goth points, confiscate my cd collection and send me back to the kinder-garden... . lol.
1) I seem to have misplaced my medieval fishnets...
2) ohno! I was seen in public without my eyeliner! and I wore hot pink lipstick last week! *hangs head in shame*
3) apparently, I should change my major to 'folklorist', since my oceanography class isn't cutting it..
4) I don't own every cure albumn.. have you heard wild mood swings?
5) and ooops, I accidentally accepted the fact that I was a Goth in the early 90's. Note to self, DENY DENY DENY! you won't be cool if you accept yourself!

erm, i have to disagree with your article. most of the Goths that I know, as well as myself, declare that we are infact Goths, becuase we a rare and dying breed. None of us wear black lipstick and many of us wear colours. this is a joke. This is just another poser article, 'oooh, wear black and look dead'. so goth! do some actual researh first, ask actual Goths what they class as Goth before you subject the human race with it.

I agree with you on all but step 4. Using the band Cure as a way to tell if someone is 'goth' or not is just as rediculous as using any other band. Just because someone listens to Cure does not make them 'goth', and just because someone can be labeled 'goth' does not mean they listen to Cure. Your lyrics method is a joke. One of the main points of 'gothdome' is individuality. Thinking that all goths memorize, much less even listen to, Cure songs is absolutely rediculous.
