I'm surprised my Native American relatives never told me about growing spuds in a garbage can?:-) My wife and I can't wait to try this, we've already got corn and tomatoes growing, thinkin about some squash, cucumbers and strawberries, Yum:-) it'll sure save on the cost of produce if we grow our own.

This works well too. Easy to use method and no digging involved is what I like about it.

planted mine in march and the plants are already above the garbage can rim. they are growing like crazy. hope I'm getting potatoes, first try.

and as always we have to look at toxicity sources...regular plastic garbage cans in the heat fume toxic gas into the soil, which goes into the food eventually...same with aluminum ones, infect the soil/food...you probably won't notice it at first, but in the long run it will effect you...at minimum look on craigslist and find a food grade barrel...this is just my common sense layman's take, I'm not an expert on anything.

here's a beginning idea of how to grow good potatoes in trash cans. think of how nice it would be to harvest your own yukon gold or dakota red potatoes?

Thanks for a great tip on growing potatoes. I'm going to try this, but I'm using old tire instead of the garbage can. Just have some to use. Will use the rest of your tips though. Thanks, Carol -

Brockway, 2-5 dozen. It depends on the summer season. We don't always get much heat in the Pacific Northwest.
