Return to article: How to Stop Your Dog From Digging Up the Lawn
on 9/10/2008 To the comment on putting thorn bush clippings in the recent holes I would think would be a horrible idea. My dog just recently sliced its paw open on some rose bush clippings he thought he would sneak and play with and I was stuck having to take him to the ER vet at 8:00 pm and waited 3 hrs there left him over night for stitches. and wound up with a $500 bill. SO BAD IDEA!!!!
on 7/15/2008 i have a dog pool, and her cage is in the shaded patio..i am starting to walk her..i hope it works..
on 7/11/2008 Although putting dog feces in spots where the dog digs does help I have a huge yard and they just go somewhere else. How can I stop it altogether?
on 9/25/2006 I tried different spices, but nothing seemed to work. I placed my dog's most recent excrement in the holes he dug and he stopped digging immediately. I also bought two large rawhide chew bones. One is kept outside and the other indoors. This way he doesn't bring his dirty bone inside on the carpet. My dog loves it and he has something to keep him busy while I'm at work.
on 8/24/2006 Sprinkle Cayenne pepper in the spots where your dogs likes to dig. Then when he/she tries to dig/sniff it gets a big nose full of it, very discouraging!
on 8/8/2006 The only thing I found that works is putting some of my clippings from thorn bushes in the holes and he does not want to get pricked by the thorns.
on 8/8/2006 My dog loves to dig and chew on stuff in my yard when I am not around. So I bought this sour apple juice that you squirt on trees and put it in the spots where my dog digs. He hated the taste of it! Don't hit your dog because he will become afraid of you, he will respect you you, but he will be afraid. Take your dog for a walk or throw a ball for him so he is not bored and has no energy to dig!
on 11/22/2005 My Beagle/Terrier Mix loves to dig. So, I decided to get out the hot chili sauce and squirt it into the holes. Works like a charm! She HATES the smell... so she doesn't dig anymore.
on 11/22/2005 Sprinkle chili powder where the dog digs and they will smell it, burn their nose and won't go back there.
on 11/22/2005 Put chicken wire in the area where your dog digs. Next time the dog tries to dig, the chicken wire will stop him.
on 2/4/2008 I sprayed bitter spray where my dogs dug. Apparently the spray got into their noses, because they stopped digging immediately. I refresh it every week to make sure they don't start again.
on 11/22/2005 Believe it or not, putting dog poop in the holes and around the areas where they might dig, has definitely worked for my dog. At first, I didn't know what to do. Our backyard is decent sized, with plenty of dirt and grass. I found our dog digging one day and decided that I would stick his poop in holes and around other areas. To this day, no more digging! Happy owner, happy puppy!
on 11/22/2005 Although moth balls in holes may work. Please remember the moth balls are very dangers and sometimes deadly to cats.
on 11/22/2005 Put dog droppings in the hole.
on 11/22/2005 Digging can come from boredom, so instead of feeding your dog his dry food in a normal bowl, scatter it around in your backyard. Your dog will have a great time looking for pieces of food.
