on 7/27/2009 If i do get one, i dont like to put anything on it. I feel like when you put cream on it it makes the affected area larger. I dont touch it at all, i dont want to spread the cells around, I keep it dry and try to blow air over it, but never lick or touch it. I put an ice pack but not an ice cube because the liquid running down could spread it. I try to stay inside relax and get plenty of sleep! Also be careful when you shower, dont get it wet. And keep your shower quick the steam doesnt seem to help. None of the creams work well in my opinion. I prefer to keep it dry(although some are more painful and you cant help it)

on 7/27/2009 PLEASE READ IM AN EXPERT
I was plagued by cold sores from chidhood. Sometimes violent herpetic outbreaks. Through research and trial and error i have almost completely eliminated them. Sunlight is huge, whenever im gonna be outside i put sunblock 70 directly on my lip. Foods are huge many have talked about citric acid thats huge too, but also TOMATO products..i get pizza with no sauce! Sunblock and check the labels and youll be great. I dont take any valtrex(i used to ive taken them all). I get maybe 1 or 2 outbreaks a year, since i figured out the sunblock i havent had a violent outbreak at all(in 5 years). They were painful and embarrassing, im almost completely rid of them, only occasional 1-2 per year and they are mild!!! Good luck

on 1/14/2008 Research Licorice and BHT. Licorice Root may be too much for some people (GA Extract) is what you want from it anyway. BHT is a food preservative. LicoriceBHT.com has a compilation of Science Journal America and other articles. Not miracle cream or cover-up is ever going to end the cycle. (These two normal items kill the dormant cells) If your putting earwax on anything your ready to stop now ...

on 9/4/2007 Lysine is really great. I take at least 1,000mgs daily to prevent outbreaks for both herpes simplex types I & II. Also taking care of what you eat is very important. You can combime with antioxitants like vitamin C to boost your inmmune system. Avoid chocolate, coffee, peanuts and other nuts, seeds, and cereal grains. These may increase outbreaks by promotong arginine. You can increase the comsumption of Lysine rich foods like broccoli, cheese, plain yogurt, milk... on 2/2/2007 Tea tree oil is magical! Apply it at first tingle and its astringent quality will obliterate the virus. Just dip a q-tip into some and hold it on the site for about two minutes. Also works nicely for acne.

on 1/29/2007 I am a HUGE believer in the use of Lysine to clear up cold sores FAST. A friend once told me she leaves the bottle on the kitchen table and takes one each time she sees it, which can really be A LOT! My doctor said that your body can naturally eliminate the excess lysine, so there is no risk of overdosing. I have found that even the blisters can go away within 24-48 hours with lysine. The trick is to take it often, so I shoot for one pill every two hours.

on 12/16/2006 A about 4 weeks ago I had got Glandular Fever and cold sores formed as my body couldn't fight off the Glandular virus. It took me over 2 weeks for them to completely to away... And now I have them again... although they are dying and i've only had it for about a day. I did this following daily ruteen when I firstly got a cold sore and it never spread! Here is a good way of taking control of those annoying cold sores:

1) Get some ice cubes, hold one ice cube on the main cold sore (after you've done the main/biggest cold sore do the others afterwards) for about 10 minutes or until the ice melts. Then get another cube and do this one more time. This kills off the germs and numbs the area.

2) Get a cottom bud and dip it into some nail varnish... don't make it dripping wet. Now hold the nail varnish bud on the main cold sore for about 15-20 minutes. This might sting a little bit but you shouldn't feel alot of pain as the ice has numbed it.

3) Get a fresh cotton bud, and dip it in some toothpaste or pure petroleum vaseline, and place a big blob of it onto the cold sore. Toothpaste is recommened the best to use, the toothpaste needs to have some mint in it as mint is a well known chemical to dry up cold sores.

Do this about 5-6 times a day. Put a big blob of toothpaste on the cold sore when you go to bed, this will stop the jerms from spreading and will stop the development of the cold sore.

ANOTHER WAY OF GETTING RID OF COLD SORES:
Most people said that using mint tea bags, and resting it on the cold sores for about 20-30 minutes helps dry up the cold sores. I am not recommending this as I haven't tired it, the top suggestion has been tested by me and it does work amazingly!

on 11/23/2006 Cold Sores- I have cold sore for the last 11 years... I have tried everything. Valtrex, Lysine, Vaseline chapstick are the best! Avoid eating- Peas, Beer, Colas, Gelatin, and nuts (peanuts, etc.) Ice helps cut down on the swelling of the blister. Abreva broke me out worst, same with other over the counter meds. Arbonne has a good topical ointment, for cold sores, it numbs the area! Advil also helps cut down on the pain. Stress, cold weather, sun, winds, foods, lack of sleep, and being sick all trigger my cold sores. I use to get them every 2 weeks and now they are few and far between. Hope this helps!

on 9/21/2006 Put some Carmex over the sore, then ice the sore with a little pressure. Get Oxy face cleaning pads and squeeze the alcohol out of the pad directly on the sore, it will dry the thing out.

If you live by the ocean, put some zinc on the sore and go out in the water for a long period of time, the salt water helps a lot.

Use Carmex, take vitamins, stay stress-free, eat yogurt, ice whenever possible, use Neosporin, pop the blisters with a pin, rest a lot, and the better the sting the faster the healing.

on 9/11/2006 Normally I used acne treatments, the stuff for overnight fixes. They burn if the sore is split, but they dry it out much like toothpaste - only faster. If you can handle the pain a bit, it's worth it.

on 9/5/2006 I use nail-polish remover, ice, and Neosporin. I have gotten cold sores since I was 6 months old and they are nasty little buggers. I refuse to even leave my house when I have one because they get huge!
