Return to article: How to Help an Abused Animal Trust You
on 7/13/2008 These are very good tips. The only thing is, some dogs, especially abused dogs, may perceive direct eye contact as a threat. Great article.
on 6/25/2008 Our little dog came from a shelter. She had been left there because the people who owned her let their small children maul and abuse her. When she started biting back [out of self defense] they took her to the shelter because she was a "vicious" dog. She didn't trust us for quite some time and even then she could change her mood on a dime. She is no, after 3 years the sweetest dog in the world!
on 5/7/2008 I ADOPTED A SMALL BEAGLE WHO WAS USED TO BREED ONLY AND WAS NEVER A "PET". SHE HAS BEEN WITH US FOR 2.5 YEARS, AND WHILE SHE IS MUCH IMPROVED SINCE DAY 1, SHE WILL NEVER BE LIKE A "REGULAR" PET. SHE IS VERY SWEET AND VERY SKIDDISH (UNLESS YOU HAVE FOOD) YOU CAN'T PICK HER UP...SHE WILL NOT COME TOO CLOSE TO ANYONE...BUT SHE WAGS HER TAIL MORE THAN ANY "REGULAR" DOG I HAVE EVER KNOWN.
