on 3/25/2008 Hi Trish; I haven't tested the matches yet... However I think that I would wipe the wax off the heads. If I had any stove fuel maybe it could be used to wipe the wax off the heads just before using them to start a fire.

on 2/19/2008 Excellent article. I was just wondering if wax was the way to do this but wasn't sure how to do it without setting myself on fire. I also thought maybe there might have been something special that had to be done in order to light them afterwards. Guess not!

on 2/14/2008 I will try this when we go camping in the summer! I have always just used an old Band-Aid box (they used to be made of metal). Moisture does affect the matches, and you really don't want to waste any (that has happened to us before and it's not a good thing).
This is a REALLY GREAT idea! I will pass this article on to my mother (she's very active in Girl Scouts).
Thanks for another great article!

on 2/12/2008 Good how-to. Everybody knows the principle, but not the particulars.

on 2/7/2008 Great tips, Ron. After the tornadoes the other night came so close, we realized this was one thing we didn't have. I'll be doing this, for sure.
