Return to article: How to Save Money by Freezing Foods
on 3/7/2008 Thanks so much - I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. I have saved money freezing for years. I have never tried to blanch anything - some things (like tomatoes) I freeze cooked, though. I make stewed tomatoes and then freeze them. Summer squash I freeze after cooking lightly with onions.
on 3/5/2008 Great tips! I started saving money and wasting less food by freezing. Things like pesto sauce are cheaper to make or buy in bulk containers, but if you divide it up into smaller portions and freeze, you won't have to worry about it going bad before you get to use it all.
on 3/5/2008 Thanks for the info. One thing that would be great to have with this article is what kinds of things can freeze and if you need to blanch anything before freezing. I know with fruit, it can vary by preference, but just a thought.
on 3/5/2008 Hi Mama's Block, Thanks so much for your kind words. I appreciate them so much! And thanks for wanting to be my friend as well! God bless, Sheila
on 3/5/2008 HI WriterGig - thanks for your kind words and good suggestion. I appreciate it.
on 3/5/2008 We save money by buying our beef by the 1/2 or 1/4 from a local rancher and freezing it after it is processed. We like organic meat and this saves a ton of money, as well as helps keep the freezer full.
on 3/4/2008 Wonderful tips! I learned a lot from this article! I'd also be interested in seeing how long foods can safely be kept frozen. I always worry I've left things too long and end up throwing them out.
