Return to article: How to make money during a recession
on 7/19/2008 Another excellent way to make money during a recession is to go freelance. While companies are laying off employees, they still have needs that are cheaper for them to meet with independent contractors - they don't have to pay for any insurance or offer other benefits other than an hourly rate. As an independent contractor, you can work with a company like MBO Partners, http://www.mbopartners.com , that acts as an employer of record, so while you're running your own business, they invoice your clients and handle back-office tasks, plus offer access to group healthcare benefits and retirement savings plans, just like you would get working for an employer. If you have marketable skills that you can offer on a consulting basis, a recession is definitely a glass half full!

on 2/1/2008 Very good advice. Even a little money invested in stocks is better than none. Right now is a good time to buy low in a lot of arenas. I'm very, very new at it, but I've already learned a lot just by paying attention. And it pays to do your own research! Other people can be intentionally or unintentionally misleading!
