on 6/19/2008 I also found another way to help your computer boot up faster. Search for "System Configuration" on your start bar and click on that. So to the start bar tab and unclick on services that you think are unnecessary. Here is a video I found on our website that helps you do this http://www.watchdoit.com/Watch.aspx?Video=EM04cWuF4Qk

on 6/11/2008 As re: Spyware, Install all 3 of these programs: Ad-aware, Spybot S&D (both freeware), and PC Tools Spyware Doctor (not free, but great). Spybot and PC Tools run resident in your tray and stop most everything after your initial scan.

Also, to get fully bullet-proof at the least cost, remove those Crummy MacAfee and Norton or any other ANTI-VIRUS your machine came with or you spent good money on and replace them with the personal version of Alwil's AVAST-ANTI VIRUS. It runs resident in your tray, updates automatically with new virus signatures every day and when they do program updates they automatically download an install too. Do (1) full scan of all of your drives to get rid of adware, trojans and viruses and then just let it do it's thing in the background. The first scan will take a bunch of time, because it will find a lot of stuff, but after that, it's smooth like butter and yo

on 6/11/2008 There is a great program called XSetup Pro that allows you to see the programs that autoload at startup and allows you to disable them from autoload. It's a shareware program, but you only need to use it once. Once you have things setup you can uninstall it. Then, every 3 months or so download and install the program's current version and do it all again. Very simple to use and does a great job. Also has a bunch of other Window's settings you can change (such as the startup splash screen and to auto shutdown hung programs when you shut-down windows-if a program is hung the machine won't finish shut-down and power off).

on 6/11/2008 Startup Delayer, you can delay all programs that start at startup by like 2 minutes and then it will let your computer boot to the desktop and then start loading your startup items. I found this program useful. Thanks for your helpful tips. I was a little curious as to your tip : "If you power down your computer in standby with an external device, you will reboot from scratch when you resume." Do you mean like using Logmein? Or like a special key on your keyboard? Good article keep up the good work!
