on 4/17/2008 It would probably have been wiser to explain your opening line a litte further...certainly, unplugging your PC from the wall socket indeed DOES protect from lightning or line surges. (Otherwise, PC's in stock still in boxes in a warehouse would also be at risk, lol). The only vulnerability would be if the user doesn't remember to also unplug the telephone line connected to a modem.
