What is the best hooded dryer and handheld dryer for afrian-american hair? I have thick heavy long hair and I do roller sets just as you described but my roots crinkle up and if I go over it with a flat iron or curling iron it strips the shine. What would you recommend?

I set my hair ofter at home and generally use just setting foam and water. What is the Silken Serum for? Doe s it manage frizz? I'm trying to transition...I still have a lot of relaxer but I'm trying to get my sets to last all week at least.

Because your mother's hair is thick, I don't believe a hand dryer would work for her hair. The reasons are the hair must be dry (completely) under the rollers and I don't believe a hand dryer would do the job properly. I have read where some people let the hair air dry (no dryer at all) but it is not recommended nor does it produce the best results especially for thick hair. My hair is also thick and I roller set my hair for the first time last week. I must toot my horn and say that it came out very pretty and people actually thought I went to a hair salon. I purchased my hooded dryer a few years ago. Since your mother is trying not to go to a new hair dresser right now, I recommend that you all shop around for a hood dryer in beauty supply stores and online. I saw a hooded dryer on Amazon.com for $35.00 which is pretty reasonable. Trust me, a hooded dryer is so worth it. Good Luck.

I need to ask if it is possible to dry my Mum's hair set with a hand dryer? Will that work? I don't have a hood dryer. Her friend, a hairdresser, set her hair at home every week for over 30 years, but sadly passed away recently. I'd really appreciate any advice as she has very strong thick hair and I'm completely new to this and worried I'll do damage. I don't think she wants to start going out to a new hairdresser at this stage so I've suggested that I try, but I'm not very confident.
