Return to article: How to Choose Your New Dog From the Pound
on 6/14/2008 This article contains some excellent and thoughtful tips. I'd like to add: dogs at the pound are often sad and might not play with toys, but they'll try to show their enthusiasm by engaging you (licking your fingers, making eye contact, etc.) or by sitting right next to you, leaning against your leg, during a free play period. All pound dogs cheer up once they're home, and in my experience, they never stop being grateful to the one who bailed them out. Also, if you like a dog, put in an application for adoption while you do your remaining research. That application will keep the pound from euthanizing it while you decide, and the application will expire after a few days in case you change your mind. Thank you for this article.
