on 1/9/2007 For those who have really bad breath and even the occasional "tonsil stone" or tonsilolith- I have this problem and if left untreated it results in very bad breath. I'm talking really bad; my roommate had the same problem and I couldn't stand to talk to him within a 3 ft radius. However, there are things you can do to prevent this type of bad breath (and I imagine lesser forms too.) First off, the Therabreath Products are awesome and they are available at Wal-Mart. Try the toothpaste with tongue scraper, and the mouthwash. Those products single-handedly alleviated my bad breath. If for whatever reason you don't have access to these products here are some things you can do. 1. Salt water rinse will really help out. I take a glass of warm water and add about a spoonful of salt and eventually gargle the whole thing. 2. Baking Soda rinse, not as effective as the salt water but still good. 3. Hydrogen peroxide rinse, this is a very effective way to kill those odor causing bacteria by oxygenating them. I gargle pure hydrogen peroxide, which was weird at first but not anymore. Use the above methods (together) and you will be on your way to fresh breath and new self-confidence.
on 12/15/2006 Okay this really helps...Take a tissue and stick it in your mouth. On your tounge and on the roof of your mouth. While it's in your mouth try to spit. Neutraliezes it!
on 12/15/2006 Do not eat poop since it can ruin your breath.
on 9/16/2006 Don't ever buy mints or gum again. The sugars will just make your breath stink more within ten minutes. First, use 1 part hydrogen peroxide mixed with one part salt water. Gargle for at least a minute and spit it out. Second, 3 parts baking soda mixed with 1 part salt water. Brush your teeth, gums, under and on top of your tongue, cheeks, etc., for a minute or two. Rinse if you want, but I swallow it instead. The baking soda lowers your Ph level, which means you have high levels of acid coming up from your stomach. That's all you do 4 times a day.
on 8/8/2006 Our hands (and fingernails) go everywhere. They pick up hordes of bacteria. If you bite your fingernails, kick the habit. Stay hydrated, use mouthwash to kill the bacteria, and you might rid yourself of bad breath.
on 8/8/2006 I am a smoker and the following cheap tips work:a) Brush toothpaste gently all over your tongue, leave it for 90 seconds, rinse with water, repeat twice daily. b) Dip your wet toothbrush into baking soda mixed with 2 drops of essential tea tree oil (antiseptic), brush over tongue, leave for 30 seconds and rinsec) Clean your teeth at least 4 times a day with 3 tablespoons of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of salt, 2 drops of tea tree oil, which has also a whitening effect.d) Add 2 drops of tea tree oil on to your wet toothbrush and clean as usual. It works for me.
on 7/22/2006 I had bad breath for some 10 years before getting to the root cause. It didn't matter what I did - clean, floss, rinse, scrape, chew - it always came back.It turned out that my tonsils were the problem. Some little white blobs can grow on them and release a horrible smell. You can self diagnose this by swabbing your tonsils with a Q-tips and smelling it. This condition is known as cryptic tonsils. If that is your case, the only cure is to go under the knife and have the tonsils removed. I did it, it's great. Just tell your doctor that you have recurrent tonsil infections.
on 3/23/2006 You can go to Walgreen's and get a medicine that is inexpensive and works, it's called MintAsure.
on 3/30/2006 Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, massage your gums with a finger, use a tongue scraper, gargle with Listerine or Am Pm mouthwash. Wash out your mouth with plain water after every meal.
on 3/20/2006 My friend works at a dentist office and she recommended Oxy Fresh toothpaste and mouthwash. I bought them for my boyfriend and they worked. He just followed the directions on the products.
on 2/16/2006 I found, scrapping the tongue with a good tongue scrapper (not a toothbrush) was the most effective. But don't ignore the brushing, flossing and regular dental visits.
on 2/10/2006 As a heavy smoker, I would recommend this to my pals; If you're on a date, and you want to enjoy a cup of espresso with a smoke, and you know that you're going to kiss your girl, make sure:1) You didn't have Italian food for lunch. 2) Brush your teeth and tongue, and use a mouthwash heavily before leaving home.3) Have a Tic-Tac and make sure your mouth is not dry - having a dry mouth is a killer!! 4) While having a Tic-Tac, inhale!5) Do not smoke unless you have gum in your mouth.6) Go to the bathroom and gargle with some water after the smoke and pop in another piece of gum. Do not keep the gum a long time, especially if you're smoking.
on 11/22/2005 If you've gone through and checked off all other possible sources of the problem like teeth, tongue, stomach, diet, and hydration, then check with an ears, nose and throat specialist to see if the problem could be related to your sinuses. That low level, nasty, allergy, post -nasal drip could be the source of all evil and no amount of brushing or diet is going to be a cure all. Get thee to the doctor!
on 11/22/2005 All you do is use hydrogen peroxide as a mouth wash. Swish a small amount of it in your mouth after brushing till it gets foamy. Then spit it out and rinse with water. It oxidizes the bacteria and also naturally whitens your teeth as well.
