on 10/9/2008 The only way to help an alcoholic spouse is to help yourself. All the love, help and suggestions in the world will not make the alcholic seek help or want to stop drinking. Unless and until the alcoholic is ready to seek help for themselves and truly wants to stop drinking, there is nothing you can do for him. Save yourself. Worry about yourself. Stop allowing yourself to be smothered by a disease you cannot contol. Love him, of course. If you still can. Alcoholism is a very selfish, mean-spirited disease. Maybe your love can survive the alchoholic's constant dependence on you to take care of everything, the verbal abuse and name calling, the anger at you for no reason. Remember, you CANNOT make an alcoholic stop drinking.

on 9/28/2008 I have tried all the above and find no peace.
The systems in place do not cater for the partners of alcoholics and it would seem that there is no help?
