on 5/8/2008 Very nice job, pianistic. I'm leaving the playing to my kids, but I'm more than happy to sing along.

on 5/6/2008 Thank you for this pretty simple article. I can read music, but my husband wants to try. I will show him your article. 5 stars!

on 3/9/2008 Pianistic, you have a wonderful way of explaining!

This is a great way to learn piano and similar to how I learned it when I started at age 8.

As I mentioned in the comment to your piano game article, my kids learned how to read music when they were obscenely young by watching a DVD called Trebellina. Explanation of the type you described would not have been appropriate for them when they were two!

I also wanted to add that once a student has the basics of reading music, an inexpensive pack of flashcards can help. You can play games with they (the "identify the key" game; "is this the right note" game, etc).

Happy playing!
