Return to article: How to Have a Dollar Dance at a Wedding
on 3/1/2008 It's largely an ethnic dance at Slavic and Latino weddings. If you haven't seen it, you must be in an area that doesn't have a large number of people of Eastern European or Hispanic heritage.
on 11/13/2007 This is a very old tradition. I remember it in my childhood and I'm pushing 50.
on 11/1/2007 I agree - My husband has performed over 1000 weddings and we've never heard of this "tradition". Dgcooley has it right, the receiving line is where the bride & groom do the 'meet and greet' thing. I'm betting a lot of people would be offended by the suggestion that they need to pay a dollar to have that special moment with the happy couple. And besides, how many people carry one dollar bills to wedding receptions (unless they have a cash bar)?
on 8/7/2007 "It is a tradition that is known across the country and is a wonderful way to spend a few moments with your guests." Surely you can't be serious! It's a good way to shake down your guests for more money, when they've already spent a ton on shower gifts, wedding gifts, travel expenses, or any combination of the above. A receiving line is a good way to spend a few minutes with all of your guests. So is personally visiting all of the tables during dinner. Please don't think you're so special that people should have to PAY to speak with you at your wedding.
