Just take some of the powdered Tang - yes, the drink - and put two tablespoons of it in your toilet bowl water. Let it sit there overnight and, in the morning, flush.

We lived in a railroad town during the steam engine era. My mother used Crisco to remove the soot from my father's white shirts. She then washed them in hot, soapy water. Voil, the soot was gone. I think my mother was one smart cookie.

I poured an entire 2-liter bottle of Coke in my toilet and left it overnight. No change. I then tried about 2 1/2 cups of vinegar for 3 hours and then scrubbed. A lot of the stain came out. I followed that with a quart of bleach and the stain is gone.

In the toilet tank, drop in a chlorine puck - the kind that is used for a hot tub or a swimming pool. With every flush, your toilet bowl gets cleaned.

Be sure to clean the base of your toilet as well. Spray the disinfectant cleaner along the base and wipe clean with cloth. No need to rinse or dry.

Muriatic acid (swiming pool acid). It eats the dirt and grime away in seconds. Wear rubber gloves and eye protection. For a really clean toilet it's the only way to go.

Hey, I am a maintainance man for HomeBase, and I tried using Coke and it didn't do anything except leave a brown line around the top of the water level.

Putting those dissolving tablets in your tank (to help clean the bowl whenever you flush) EATS away at the rubber stopper. So if you use them, be prepared to change the stopper in the tank often. (Oh, wear gloves. The black will ouze off onto your hands!)

For stubborn stains like a darker ring caused by hard water, use a pumice stone. It will not harm the toilet bowl. Use the small pumice stones that are sold with foot-care products or buy a larger one at a hardware store.

For heavy cleaning, pour a can of Coke into the bowl and let it sit for a while. It will eat away the stains and you can scrub anything remaining. Hmmm ... we drink this stuff?

To clean the back of your toilet tank, drop in two denture tablets. Works excellent. Also Calgon water softner helps with hard-water stains.

Pour 1 cup of vinegar in the bowl. Let set for 30 minutes, then take a brush and brush all around and under rim. This removes hard water deposits.

Do not ever use any kind of abrasive cleaners in your toilet bowl or bathtub. Over a period of years it will scratch the porcelain and cause more stains. I use baking soda on a damp cloth to remove stains, as it will not scratch the surface.

on 11/22/2005 Once a week, pour 1 cup of bleach in the tank AND pour a little in the overflow pipe. No scrubbing will be needed.
