For heavy cleaning, pour a can of Coke into the bowl and let it sit for a while. It will eat away the stains and you can scrub anything remaining. Hmmm ... we drink this stuff? -

The pumice stone rules!! Where you cannot reach with the pumice stone, pour a pile of vinegar in the bowl and let it sit overnight. It will all come out with a brush in the morning. I had tried almost everything until listening to these tips on eHow. -

Don't forget to clean the rest. Wipe the seat, tank, and base with a standard bathroom cleaner and a rag. -

I poured an entire 2-liter bottle of Coke in my toilet and left it overnight. No change. I then tried about 2 1/2 cups of vinegar for 3 hours and then scrubbed. A lot of the stain came out. I followed that with a quart of bleach and the stain is gone. -

Once a week, pour 1 cup of bleach in the tank AND pour a little in the overflow pipe. No scrubbing will be needed. -

Ok, I just moved in a house with a basement toilet that had a disgusting brown ring around it. I tried bathroom cleaners, baking soda and vinegar and finally I remebered a toilet bowl cleaning remedy I can't remember where I heard this. Add powdered lemon drink crystals (or anything with citric acid). The good thing about this is that if your pet happens to take a drink it won't be harmful. It worked very well!! -

I have found a great way to rid my toilets of hard water rings (and who knows what else) when using a pumice did not work. I use Bar Keepers Friend and it works great! Just make sure the bowl is wet, sprinkle on the Bar Keepers Friend, wait a few minutes and with a little elbow grease the stains are gone! -

Dissolve a denture cleaning tab in your toilet bowl for a quick shine up. -

If you have a septic tank, you might want to consult a plumber prior to following some of the advice given. Certain chemicals do not interact well with a properly functioning septic system and may kill off the bacteria needed to break down waste. -

I have found that Greased Lightning will bring urine stains to the surface. I have a daycare, and the boys are constantly getting the underside of the toilet seat stained. The Greased Lightning works to lift the stains. I have tried bleach, Magic Eraser, and several other things, but the Greased Lightning is the only one that worked. It also was great on the grout around the toilet. Greased Lightning is amazing in the microwave also. Just spray it on and let it sit for about a minute, and wipe out. You don't even have to scrub!!! -

Do not ever use any kind of abrasive cleaners in your toilet bowl or bathtub. Over a period of years it will scratch the porcelain and cause more stains. I use baking soda on a damp cloth to remove stains, as it will not scratch the surface. -

For weeks and months, I tried everything on the market to remove the unsightly ring and discoloration around the inside of my toilet. I scrubbed until my arm was falling off. I picked up "The Works" at Wal-Mart (one of the suggestions on this site). 94 cents - can you believe it? It only cost 94 cents! There was no preparation. I poured in about a cup of the liquid, swished it around for a moment or two with the toilet brush, and flushed. The toilet bowl was sparkling clean. I could not believe how great this product worked. It did the job so quickly, and it was 100% effective. You will not be disappointed, it really works. -

In the toilet tank, drop in a chlorine puck - the kind that is used for a hot tub or a swimming pool. With every flush, your toilet bowl gets cleaned. -

Be sure to clean the base of your toilet as well. Spray the disinfectant cleaner along the base and wipe clean with cloth. No need to rinse or dry. -

There is a product on the market called "The Works." I clean for a living and wouldn't be without The Works for toilets and The Works Shower Cleaner. The shower cleaner stinks, but works on the hardest soap scum. Wear gloves! -

To clean a badly stained toilet when nothing else works, empty water from toilet at night. Line the bowl with paper towels, then saturate towels with industrial-strength cleaner. Let sit overnight, then flush in the morning and scrub with pumice or brush.
