First, take the curtain off the hooks. Throw it in the washing machine. Remove it from the washer, and throw it in the dryer. It is best not to dry a full cycle. The curtain will be a little bit soft, but it will return to it's normal texture when it cools. Hang the curtain up immediately.

Wash it in the washing machine. This gets everything out. When it is done, you will probably need to dry it with a towel, but it will look like new.

I take the shower curtain down from the rod and throw it into the washing machine with some bath towels. Wash as usual. The bath towels act as scrubbers to get the shower curtain clean. I throw the curtain and the towels into the dryer (on low heat) for several minutes. Then, I hang the curtain (which looks brand new) back up!

Fill the washer with hot water and 1 cup of bleach. Add the shower curtain and two bath towels. Run a regular cycle. When the rinse cycle begins, add 1 cup of vinegar.

My shower curtain is on a spring type rod that unscrews from the wall. I found that if I unscrew it, turn it around and place it to the back of the tub area, I can use any cleaner I want, especially X14 or Tilex Mildew remover. After the cleaner works, I just use my hand sprayer to wash the curtain down then let it dry. When it's dry, just unscrew and replace the curtain at the edge of the tub. When I put it in the wash, I also unscrew it and just slip the whole thing (plastic rings and all) off the rod and wash it with the plastic rings attached. I don't know if metal rings would work but I don't see why not. They are in the shower area anyway.

The machine is the easiest way. Use a rinse cycle with 1/4 cup of vinegar or use it in a Downy ball to get rid of suds (this is great for towels in same load too).

Throw your shower curtain in the washing machine with towels. The towels will do all the work. NOW TO KEEP IT CLEAN: Once your curtain is clean just soak it in your tub with 1/3 cup salt and let sit for 15 minutes. The saltwater stops any future accumulation. Hang up and your all set.

Take the dry shower curtain, drape it over the side of the tub. Scrub the part of the curtain that is inside the tub with a brush and vinegar. Move the curtain up and into tub as more is scrubbed. The entire curtain will be in tub after finished. Rinse.

Spray vinal shower curtain with "Shower Power" or similar product, un hook and place in washing machine with two towels. Curtains come out sparkeling clean, if creased rinse with warm water before rehanging.
on 11/22/2005
Use a spray bottle to spray the curtain with 1 part bleach to 10 parts water after every shower or every day. Also, you can soak the curtain in the washing machine with the bleach & water mixture for an hour, then wash normally.

on 11/22/2005 Throw it into the washer with hot water and some soap and bleach. Watch when you pull it out as it may have trapped water in it.

on 10/1/2007 Pour two full tea kettles of boiling water down the drain. This is an amazing fix. Use this also for maintenance as often as you like.

on 11/22/2005 I have had much success by putting my shower curtain in the washing machine with bleach and detergent. It is less work and less mess.
