Comments on How to Make a Bed

Very complete article. However, are there proper/suggested ways for placing the pillows, i.e., open ends of pillowcases toward the center of the bed or open ends of pllowcases toward the edges of the bed?

Top sheet printed side should be down so when you pull the sheets back you see the design rather than it being covered by the blanket. Also, when you fold the top sheet on top of the blanket the printed side will be displayed. My mother and sister-in-law had their dispute settled after buying waterbed sheets which are attached at the bottom and sure enough, and much to my mother's dismay, the top of the bottom sheet and the bottom of the top sheet faced each other.

You really need a clean, comforting bed at the end of a tough day. This is good advice.

Something you would think everyone knows how to do, but yet something many don't do. I love a well made bed with hospital corners! Thanks for the article.

I just had a huge disagreement with my girlfriend as to how the top sheet is to be placed. I say printed side up and she insists it is printed side down.....anyone have any ideas?

I'm sending this to my sons. They never did get it. Maybe if they see it in writing....aww who am I kidding?!

This is especially true when living in a small home. An unmade bed just makes the room look smaller. Good detailed instructions.

So simple yet, you're right, it can make all the difference at the end of a hard, stressful day.

How do you know which way the king size fitted sheet goes when one side is a little longer than the other? As I recall, the manufacturer's tag inside one of the sewn corners has something to do with it -- as in it goes on one particular corner. Any ideas?

Here's an idea if you like your bed and boxspring on the floor: Cover the boxspring with a mattress pad and a solid-color, dark sheet - then you needn't worry about the duvet not covering the boxspring.
