"DO we need an article on how to do everything? " well, if you are in my shoes (parents died suddenly leaving u all alone without knowledge of survival), you too would be googling this kind of info..

Yes people do need articles like this as these skills are no longer taught. Thanks for creating a basic and simple guide. I find creating airbubbles under the clothing and making it escape through the weave works well. I'm looking for more effective methods since we got laughed at by the locals whilst in Africa!

zahzel said: DO we need an article on how to do everything? ___ Yes, sometimes people can't wrap their head around something they have never done, even if it is very simple. I knew how to do this, but coming here and hearing it from someone else who does it the same way was reassuring. Especially since I don't want to ruin my favorite hat.

Good Aticle on how to hand wash clothes.I tried this with jeans once when the washer was down. The clothes were very wet and heavy for the dryer. Is there a better way to get the water out?

I've always seen "hand-wash only" on my labels but never knew how to do this. Thanks!

The washing machine 'silk' cycle is frequently gentle enough to wash very delicate garments and then hang to dry. This saves time and assures all the detergent has been removed. Thank you.

Hand washing has always been an excellent way of washing delicate clothing. Great tips.

Very clear steps. Just remember to read the labels on the clothes and don't wring the items. Use gentle motions.

Yep, that's how its done. Following the instructions on the label is the key to success.

Always read the label on the clothes you're washing. I started to follow this article by filling the sink with hot water, only to find the label said hand wash "cold"! Don't automatically use hot water, lukewarm or cold water will be less damaging anyway, the reason you're handwashing to begin with.

Just remember that if you usually hand wash certain clothing to help protect them from damage caused by the agitator in a washing machine, you may not want to put those clothes into the dryer at all, or put them in on low if you do. Excessive heat from the dryer is one of the most damaging things to all kinds of clothes! If you're going to take the time and care to hand-wash special garments, it only makes sense to help keep them looking new by line-drying them out of direct sunlight, or laying items such as sweaters flat to dry on a rack made especially for drying clothes on.
