Dittos on the Curly Girl method by Lorraine Massey. I have only been doing this method for a few weeks, but already my hair is in so much better condition and I can actually get good curls/waves, which I had not been able to do before. It can be a lot of work, but it is definitely worth it!

Great advice however I have a couple more tips I could add being a licensed cosmotologist for 20 years. The first is to invest in a satin pillow case. Cotten pillow cases cause a drag on the hairs cuticle and also aborbs the moisture and oils off of curly hair. This can damage the hair and cause breakage. The other is to use a great moisturizer on your hair everytime you cleanse it. The CURLS line is a great hair care line for curly hair and they have two great moisturizers. One is a spray on for everyday use, Quenched Curls and the other is for deeper moisturizing after cleansing, Coconut Sublime Moisturizing Conditioner.

I have curly hair and love to find suggestions on how to best take care of it! I used to hate my curls. I felt they were difficult to control and always frizzy. Lately I have decided that I love them! I spent many years trying to find the right product..you name it, I've tried it. I finally realized that the key to getting non-frizzy curls is to not wash my hair everyday. I thought that sounded gross at first...but now I have the best curls out there. The other thing I've found is the CURLS line. They have great products that I can customize to my hairs needs. Their conditioner is simply awesome...I can now wash (or not wash) and go. No more blow drying and damaging my hair. Just a little quenched curls and some milkshake and I can walk out the door. You can find their stuff online at curls.biz. I highly highly recommend checking out this line.

to get great curls without spending your whole morning on them-- start by taking your shower at night and use extra conditioner. Dont wash all the conditioner out of your hair. Leave your hair damp and apply your oil or defrizzing lotion. comb oil or lotion through gently with a wide-toothed comb. go to sleep with your hair scrunched under your head. In the morning just calm any frizz with some oil or defrizzing lotion, and your good to go!

I'm a very thick curly girl too and I didn't know what to do with my hair until after I turned 30 so I just kept it very short. When I turned 30 I had an age crisis (grin) and decided to grow my hair out. It was awful in the growing out stage! When I was in my late 30s my curly girl daughter found Lorraine Massey's book and my hair is amazing now. I highly recommend reading this book, it will really change your outlook on your hair! I only use shampoo about once every three or four months when I feel like I need a deep scalp cleansing. When I do shampoo I don't pull it through my hair and I don't leave it on because it wrecks my hair for days after. I used Lorraine's Diva conditioner in the shower and as a leave in. I don't brush or comb my very curly hair in or out of the shower. I rub the conditioner into my hair just like I moisturize my skin. Gently but thoroughly. I turn into the shower and let the water run over my hair without touching it. I shake my hair out to get it well saturated. I use a shower massage head so after I rinse most NOT ALL of the conditioner out I turn the water to cool and rinse my hair upside down. When I get out of the shower I "towel" it off in an upside down scrunching motion using an old t shirt. I never wrap a towel around my head because it removes the moisture I've just worked so hard to put in. I let my hair dry naturally and use a little more Diva if I need it. After it has dried enough so it doesn't drip I scrunch again with a light inexpensive non alcohol based gel. I don't rub it in I only scrunch the ends. My hair is thick and heavy so to avoid a flat top and triangle head I use little clips in the top to give my hair lift while it dries. I can actually go out of the house like that because the clips hardly show and if they do it just looks like a funky style. About once every other week I use a deep conditioner treatment on my hair. I use Queen Helene which is very very thick and yellow and doesn't smell so good but it works. I put it on thickly and put my hair into a shower cap. I wrap the shower cap (not my hair) in a big towel and go to bed. In the morning I get up and rinse and it's ready to go. I don't even need styling product on the day after my deep conditioning treatment.

PROBLEMATIC HAIR ok so im a guy with really curly hair, and i have noticed, as many of you have posted here, that the best way to get nice hair is not using shampoo too often. the problem is i live in a very polluted city (rome, italy) and if i dont wash my hair everyday it will not smell nicely. moreover, i have oily acne prone skin, and if i dont wash my hair often, i will get a lot of impurities and acne on my shoulders and back. can anyone please give me some advice?

    1. When you get out of the shower and your hair is wet, brush it out very well (you can also do this while in the shower if you prefer). 2. Put some anti frizz drops in from root to tip (you may want to repeat this a couple of times depending on your hair type). 3. Take some gel, whatever kind you prefer (I prefer FX). Run the gel through from root to tip- repeat about 4 times, depending how thick your hair is. 4. Bend over the tub and scrunch your hair for about 30 seconds while still wet, then put it up in a towel. Wait for about 5 minutes before taking it down. I like to brush my teeth while I am waiting. 5. Take your hair down, maybe put a little more gel in, but definitely scrunch some more frizz drops into your hair. 6. Blow dry upside down with a diffuser. I am not positive if this will work for you, but it gets me a ton of compliments! Hope it works for ya, enjoy!

In the shower, use a nice shampoo and conditioner, do not brush in shower! You may run your fingers through it, but don't brush. Once out, don't dry hair and flip your hair over. Then jump and down; the curls start forming again while wet and they start to bounce. Don't do it too long. Once you have done that, if you see some knots, use a tooth-comb to comb it, but do it gently. Then, for frizz problems, put in some leave in conditioner on the ends of your hair and do not blow dry. Try not to move around while drying, it reduces frizz. Hope this helps!
