on 8/29/2008 I'd suggest a small first aid kit, bandaids, stomach ache medicine, headache medicine, other meds you might prefer, like allergy.

Also, a mini sewing kit.

Just might save a mandatory trip to a store when you'd rather be doing other things.

In the summer a one piece swimsuit can double as a tank top with shorts or a skirt.

In the winter, quick dry microfiber can really come in handy.

on 8/25/2006 Instead of packing 4 different outfits for a two day trip, buy a current magazine, look through it for Ideas, and pack accordingly that way you know what you are wearing is in style without having to over-pack.

on 8/8/2006 Remember, you're only going for two-three days, so you don't need that many clothes. Wear one outfit, then pack a pair of jeans, a pair of white trousers (dressier than black and can be dressed up or down), a dressy top, a casual top. If you're wearing flats, then pack heels or vice versa. That's three mix & match outfits for three days. Take a jacket, just in case. Plain black if possible, as it goes with everything and can be dressed up or down.

on 6/30/2006 At the beginning of the summer, start your weekend clothes pile. These are the clothes that you take with you each time, bring back, wash and then repack. Some clothes, such as sweatshirts and bathing suits, are just for the lake. The pile can be updated throughout the year.

on 6/30/2006 Buy a small canvas-style bag to hold all of your toiletries. Then find the travel sized toiletries to put inside the bag. It would be easy to find shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, a toothbrush, comb, brush, lotion, deodorant, etc. in a smaller size that you can keep in the canvas bag year round and use whenever you are on vacation. Just grab the bag and go without worrying if you'll forget anything. Bonus: you don't have to move any of the stuff from your home and therefore won't risk losing or breaking them.

on 3/16/2006 When traveling with friends, we decide ahead of time who will bring what item, then we're not stuck with 3 hairdryers, 3 tubes of toothpaste, etc.

on 3/30/2006 If you have a tendency to bring a lot of "just in case" items, do this;
every day write down what you actually wore and use this as a guide for future packing. You'll be surprised to see what is never worn and what you wear more than once.

on 11/22/2005 I use a zippered pillow slipcover as a laundry bag. You can punch it around to fit any space in the suitcase and stuff does not fall out.

on 11/22/2005 For a weekend trip or longer, I carry a white wastebasket-size plastic bag for dirty clothes. I don't like to repack my soiled and clean clothes together.

on 11/22/2005 Place items for use in the bathtub such as shampoo, etc. in one zip-top bag; items for use at the sink such as toothbrush and toothpaste in another; lip balm and emery boards in one to use at the bedside. Makes packing and unpacking easier.

on 11/22/2005 Buy cheap shampoo, conditioner, soap, loofah, hair spray, toothbrush etc. for your short trip. Instead of packing wet items that may spill, throw them away at the end of the trip.

on 11/22/2005 Go through your daily routine of getting ready and write down *everything* as you use it. Keep this list for every time you pack and you'll always have essentials.

on 11/22/2005 For longer trips and overseas, take old underwear and toss it out once worn.
