on 12/25/2008 Their use to be a product shaped like a lemon you put in the refrigerator to eliminate odors. How can I find this product? Email "reb124@sunflower.com" if you know someone who can furnish it.
on 7/24/2008 I had the worst refrigerator odor coming from a combination of cheese, onions and chinese food. Pretty bad. After trying just about everything else including baking soda which didn't really work well, I saw a recommendation about a product called Fridge-IT. It is a little purple activated carbon odor absorber. Might be little but wow, does it work great. I highly recommend it. www.innofresh.com
on 11/9/2007 To really clean and sanitize your refrigerator, use one full capful of Listerine Original Gold (or store brand look alike) in a large mixing bowl with warm water for a surprising fresh and hospital sanitized refrigerator. If mold or other creepy things have found a home inside your refrigerator, remove ALL foodstuffs and use ½ cup household bleach in a glass mixing bowl of warm water to scrub and neutralize undetected or known germs/mold. Be certain to use a scrub brush on all seams, corners and walls to loosen locked on food particles. When bleach cycle is completed, follow with a rinse-then dry everything inside-thoroughly Use Listerine GOLD mixed with water in a sprayer-for cleanups. Give Refig the "Dollar Bill" in the closed door test-to check for good sealing. IF the dollar bill can be pulled out-the source of smells could be from a poor seal and heat seep.
on 8/10/2007 Refrigerator odors - I found the very best product made just for this called FRIDGE IT. It is a little inexpensive fragrance free activated carbon filter that I buy at Linens N Things. Fantastic and no chemicals or spills and works so much better than baking soda. I use this product around the house now to get rid of lots of problem odors around trash and litter box.
on 7/2/2007 Does anyone know how to clean a defrost pan that is not removeable? I have a side by side and I've located the pan by removing the grill on the bottom of the fridge. I have a stink coming from there and I'm sure it's the pan but I can't take it out! I know I could put some belac or baking soda in it and hope for the best but I'd really prefer to take it out and scrub it. How do I do it without breaking the pan???
on 11/22/2005 I got a hold of a refrigerator that had been unplugged (with food in it) for about 6 months, and at the end of summer! It sounds odd and messy; but clean out the fridge with tomato juice. Leave it on the surface for an hour or so. It works. It's been used to bathe in after skunk encounters for years. I've never heard of any odor worse or more difficult to remedy than that!
on 11/22/2005 Try checking the bottom pan underneath the refrigerator (on the exterior). We had an odor problem and when we checked the bottom pan it had all sorts of things growing in it! After I cleaned it out, the odor was eliminated and hasn't returned. On my fridge, the pan was accessible from the front by removing the bottom plastic panel. It seems the odor from this pan was rising up and getting into the refrigerator through the cold air ducts. Check the bottom pan!
on 11/22/2005 I usually place a charcoal at the inner left or right side of the refrigerator. Let it stay and it will absorb the foul smell of your food. Just make sure to place it in a small container or newspaper because it's a bit messy. - Maricar
on 11/22/2005 I have finally found a way to absolutely remove odors from refridgerators and other places. I clean out the fridge first and then I put a small bowl of coffee grounds (like what you put in an automatic coffee maker) and let it set for a day or two and then remove the bowl. Like I said before this also works for other odors also in a lot of other places. Just be creative when you have a bad odor somewhere. Try it, it really works. I was very surprised when I had heard about this, but I tried it anyway.
on 11/22/2005 I clean up any spills immediately, keep all foods covered and, when doing dishes, always open fridge and see that any food such as leftovers over 2 days old are dumped. I then wash out fridge completely and quickly and put in new baking soda as needed.
on 11/22/2005 Take everything out of refrigerator and freezer and clean with soap and water. Then wipe down with a solution of water and white vinegar. Place several crumbled-up newspapers liberally sprinkled with vanilla extract inside for about one hour.
