Return to article: How to Get Rid of Hard Water Spots on a Windshield
on 1/6/2009 Our new car was stolen and eventually recovered but with severe water spots. The detail shop was unable to remove them. My friend had used a product on her house windows and it worked great. After using applying two coats of Bruces glass cleaner the windows are completely water spot free. I got it at Longs Drugs and I think Ace hardware carries it
on 9/21/2008 I just used the SPOTEX which I got at Home Depot in the cleaners section for $7.99. It worked great and was easy to use. I had water spots on my brand new car from my sprinklers and everything else I tried didn't work. It is actually made for hard water spots on glass so you know it is safe for your windows
on 9/16/2008 DO NOT DO IT
on 8/22/2008 Not so sure about the steel wool- seems a bit scratchy! Not so good for seeing through a window. I like the idea of ketchup though. I am willing to try that!
on 6/2/2008 Whoever wrote this is a moron! Do not try this, I did On my 2006 Tacoma windshield and it left the windshield with small scratch marks all over and circle scratch's that left the view blurred!
on 5/18/2008 My car windows were BADLY spotted from my well sprinkler system. I looked online for days- steel wool, vinegar and water, psh... none of it worked for me. I used RustAid on my windows- used to get the Rust stains off the side of your house or your driveway from the sprinklers. IT WORKED GREAT!!! I just rubbed it on with a towel and polished it off and my windows were the clearest they've ever been. So RUSTAID works best! And you can find it at any Walmart/HomeDepot/Loews. Snow Cap is another one that is a rust remover. But this worked amazingly! I highly recommend it for any glass surface!
on 9/3/2007 Do not use steel wool. Vinegar does not work. Household cleaners will damage your window/tint/paint. Remove water spots easy with No7 Polishing Compound. RMake sure it says No7 Polishing Compund. Not Rubbing Compound. Made by cyclo.com You can find it at any Sears in the automotive section. No other compound or method will work as well. Plus it is less then $3.00 Use a fine cloth or micro fiber. Small circular motions and the spots disappear. Plus it will not harm you paint.
on 3/2/2007 KETCHUP. FUNNY BUT IT WORKS, THE VINEGAR AND SALT MIXED CLEANS IT RITE UP, AND WHAT A SHINE IS LEFT

on 1/30/2007 Hi, Does anyone know how to get off a fine paint spray off a windshield? I recently had my bumper repainted and looks like they have left a fine paint spray all over my glass! Someone please help!
on 12/10/2006 I use the Mr Clean car wash kit. It has a built in water purifier so I never get water spots.
on 10/26/2006 I had tried everything to get the spots off my car windshield. Vinegar Windex, and Zud. My neighbor had bought this stuff called spotx and let me use it and it worked great. It is a powder and it has a special pad. I was told the other pads that are in the stores scratch. What I liked about this product is not only did it work but it didn't have any fumes (I am very sensitive) and I didn't have to wear gloves because I guess it doesn't have any chemicals. Oh and it didn't take me very long before I was done.
on 8/21/2006 I tried the steel wool an had no luck. Car rubbing compound, again, no luck. I went to a glass place in town and he sold me a bottle of Bio-Clean. It is used for windows, showers, etc. I was really happy with the way it worked. I worked it on like a wax, then I had a small bucket of water and used a paper towel to wipe it off. This stuff works with water, so when you wipe it off you may have to do it twice. Then I cleaned it with a glass cleaner; then a better glass cleaner (Sprayway). Then I applied Rain-x. Not an easy fix, but just as easy as anything else. I got both of these item at the glass store.
on 8/12/2006 Glass Scrub. This worked when all else failed. I used the product on a wet windshield with a damp No no towelette, as instructed, and the stain came off effortlessly. And, other than the pure ammonia and vinegar, it was the least expensive product tried.
on 8/8/2006 I have found that the easiest way to remove water spots is to use a heavy cut rubbing compound, like the 3M purple bottle with a mini buffer.
