on 3/31/2008 I'm wondering about the advice to avoid using ammonia on stainless steel. I've seen other websites that recommend ammonia. What is the concern with ammonia?

on 2/23/2008 Man tries to cook, man burns womans stainless steel pot, which I believe to have aluminum clad bottom. Man burnt sausage and spaghetti sauce which is cleaned out, but the bottom inside is discolored blue and has a bad smell like ?metal ashtray. Is there any hope to clean and restore color? Is it safe to use?

on 1/19/2008 We just got new Calphalon pans and they tell you NOT to use baking soda on stainless steel. It will void your warranty.

on 11/18/2007 I am wondering if it is possible to restore a stainless steel water distiller to it's original state after it has been accidentally left on the stove and the water has boiled away. There were black stains on the pot and it appeared that some kind of outer coating may have come off. Does stainless have some kind of coating? I had thought it was just polished to a shine. I tried making more water after this happened and the water did not taste well. There is also a screen that goes in the bottom of the pot and it has a burned look to it and had that funny smell similar to the taste in the water so I am not sure if the bad taste was from that or not. So I am not sure if a coating of some kind was burned off or if it just needs to be re-polished somehow.

on 4/8/2007 WD40 works to shine but does not really clean. Plus it is Toxic and leaves oily film. I tried Bayes Premium Stainless Steel Cleaner. This stuff works unbelievable. It is also not toxic.

on 1/31/2007 Try WD40, or Pam,Crisco cooking spray with a dry paper towel or lint free micro fiber cloth is best. Spray WD40, Pam, or Crisco cooking spray directly onto cloth and wipe stainless steel appliance with it! It will bring the luster back to brand new, honest! All 3 products work, trust me. Amazing results!

on 8/8/2006 I heard leaving ketchup on the burn or discoloring will help. It works for some burns. Put ketchup on the affected area, let set for about 15 minutes, then wash clean.

on 6/30/2006 Try using ketchup to buff the stainless steel. Use a medium size handful off ketchup and a dry cloth. Rub in a circular motion. Use a new dry cloth to remove the ketchup.
